Pierce College's Expand Your Horizons dental hygiene program is designed for Expand Your Horizons for
- dental hygiene practicioners who want to update and expand their skills,
- practicioners or recent graduates moving into Washington state who plan to take the Western Regional Exam, and
- dental hygiene faculty who wish to incorporate expanded functions into current curriculums.
The courses – Local Anesthesia and Nitrous Oxide – are intended to update dental hygienists in the areas of expanded function in the practice of dental hygiene in Washington state and to prepare students to deliver restorative dental care and utilize local anesthesia and nitrous oxide on clinical patients.
All clinical learning experiences are supervised by licensed dentists and dental hygienists who have experience teaching expanded functions.
Pierce College's program is accredited by the American Dental Association, Commission on Dental Accreditation, and is an approved course by the State Department of Health Dental Hygiene Examining Committee, and is therefore accepted by the Western Regional Examining Board (WREB).
