Workshop Prerequisites


The courses offered in the Expand Your Horizons program are a combination of lecture, lab and clinical applications. You must be able to demonstrate competency in all levels of expanded functions and should have pre–knowledge in the following subject areas:

  • Basic dental hygiene skills
  • Pharmacology, head and neck anatomy
  • Background in dental anatomy and dental materials

Pre–study course assignments and materials for the Local Anesthesia & Restorative Dentistry classes will be distributed via an online classroom. Students will need to provide e–mail addresses when registering.

In addition to the knowledge requirements, you must provide proof of the following:

  • Current First Aid & CPR certification
  • Proof of current licensure in Washington (temporary or permanent), proof of licensure in another state, or proof of licensure pending status (i.e.: WREB eligible). A COPY of your current license or of the pending license status paperwork is acceptable.
  • Proof of a Hepatitis B vaccination OR proof of immunity confirmed by a titer test
  • TB antigen test current within one year
  • Official transcripts from an ADA accredited dental hygiene program. Transcripts must be official transcripts sent directly from the academic institution to the following address:
    • Pierce College Continuing Education ATTN: Ellen King / CE Program Coordinator 9401 Farwest Drive SW, Lakewood, WA 98498-1999
    • OR: a certified (notarized) COPY of a certificate (diploma) from an ADA accredited dental hygiene program.

Note: Alaskan applicants need to take the clinical WREB exam. It is recommended that they enroll in the Restorative Dentistry course.
