SAIL provides training for exercise instructors and other professionals with exercise/fitness qualifications so that they can integrate the latest evidence and research into their exercise programs for older adults.

Training Designed to Meet Your Needs
Exercise Instructors: Intended for those who teach exercise courses to a variety of individuals. ($130)
Physical/Occupational Therapists: You must be a PT/OT to take this course as it entails theory and research that is not addressed in the Exercise Instructor course. ($190)
Program Background
The SAIL Program was developed by physical therapy, nursing and public health professionals in collaboration with the Washington State Department of Health as a public health fall prevention exercise and education program for older adults.
*For older adults who participate in SAIL exercises at least twice a week for two or more weeks, the program is effective in improving strength, balance and ability to perform activities of daily living.
Program Content
The program content can be offered as group exercise classes for up to 20 participants, one hour, three times a week, or it can be integrated into existing clinical physical or occupational therapy practices, or existing exercise programs. The training includes
powerpoint presentations, videos, practical demonstrations, weekly online discussions, and evaluation.

What Makes Our Program Unique?- Each online workshop provides 20 hours of course experience. If students require additional documentation of professional education/development activity, Continuing Education Units are available (at an additional fee of $25 fee per course) through the Pierce College Continuing Education Department.
- Our workshops are completely interactive! We have instructors that lead and facilitate course activities and students engage in thoughtful discussions applying what they have learned.
- The program is flexible! You do not have to be logged in at a specific time each day. This means you can complete your workshop at times that are convenient for you!
