Online Learning – Getting Started

Before you register —

The Distance Learning staff strongly suggests that you take the PCOL course CIS 103 “Online Learning – Getting Started.” It is a two-credit course that may be used as a general elective in your degree program. It is offered at the start of each quarter and a second time about mid-quarter for those planning to register in the upcoming term.

Through this introductory online experience, you will learn how online courses work and the personal preparation required for successful learning online.

Topics covered in the class include technical preparation, navigating the online course environment, online relationships, and how online learning differs from face–to–face instruction.

The class will help you identify when and how online learning is best incorporated in to your educational activities.

The only requirment is that you have regular access to the Internet plus familiarity with the Web and E–mail.

Too late for CIS 103 this term?

If you have already filled your schedule and are unsure of your ability to work in this online world try "Learn to Learn Online" self-directed training at WAOL's Web site. There is also a Week Zero tutorial for using Blackboard at the WAOL site.
