Larsen Congratulates First Grads of Reserve Law Enforcement Academy
Friday, December 10th, 2004Washington, D.C. - Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) joined with Whatcom Community College (WCC) and Whatcom County Sheriff Bill Elfo in congratulating the first 17 graduates of the Reserve Law Enforcement Academy. The Academy, which trains reserve volunteers to assist deputies in patrolling Whatcom County, is sponsored by WCC and the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office. Larsen secured $250,000 in a fiscal year 2004 congressional spending bill to help WCC create the academy as an expansion of its Administration of Justice Program.

Computer Information Systems Security programs new NSA certification
Monday, December 6th, 2004The Computer Information Systems Security program at Clover Park Technical College has been awarded its second National Security Agency certification this year. Clover Park Technical College is the only technical college on the west coast to be recognized with two National Security Agency certifications.

Gov. Gary Locke Announces Skill Panel Grant Awards
Thursday, December 2nd, 2004Public/private partnerships in the areas of marine manufacturing and
technology, transportation, advanced manufacturing, construction, and
homeland security will share $385,000 in grant money from the state
Workforce Training and Education Board to establish skill panels designed to fill specific needs within those industry sectors across the state.

Computer security classes coming to WCC
Wednesday, December 1st, 2004Whatcom Community College has added a specialty in information security for computer majors, with individual courses also open to the community.
“We’re hoping we can turn out people who can protect organizations from external and internal attacks,” said Corrinne Sande, who coordinates the computer information systems program at Whatcom.
