The FY 2007 EMPG Program Guidance and Application Kit is now available online at http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/odp/grants_programs.htm.

Emergency management is a vital part of the Department of Homeland Security’s preparedness mission and EMPG directly supports the Nation’s emergency management community.

FY 2007 EMPG Program provides $194 million in critical assistance to sustain and enhance state and local emergency management capabilities. FY 2007 EMPG allowable costs remain consistent with previous fiscal years and have been divided into planning, organization, equipment, training, and exercises categories. In addition, management and administration costs are allowable.

College Courses in Homeland Security on the Rise

Colleges and universities increasingly are offering homeland security courses, as higher education is coming to accept the new subject area but perhaps not fully embrace it as a distinct discipline.
“The jury’s out on whether or not this will evolve,” said Todd Stewart, a retired Air Force major general, who is now director of Ohio State University’s Program for International and Homeland Security. However, he added, homeland security is believed among experts to be the “most rapidly growing area of new academic programs.
