4/7/05 - Subgroup meeting
Members: Kandee Nelson, Kathleen Beaumont, Jim Butler, Ryan Todd,
Denny Livingston, Brian Benedetti
We met today as a subgroup of the Enhanced Tech Group to discuss Training
Instructors to Use Technology Classrooms. Here's an update on decisions
and actions.
Decisions:
- We need a list of all faculty using tech rooms for the following quarter
- Eventually after we get the new scheduling software this should be easier
- We need to reach the instructors near the end of the quarter and train them
on the rooms they will use the next quarter.
- We can group some of the rooms into similar types then just point out the
minor quirks in the specific classrooms. (so we don't have to teach a workshop
for every room)
- We had a healthy debate on whether the equipment needs simple instructions
attached. I'm making the decision that they do, but the problem is as always..time
resources to make this happen.
- We will also provide the instructions as a pdf and have them on our
website.
- We will advertise this training via faculty orientations, division chair
meetings, email, and word of mouth.
- We need to form a Power-User group for this equipment so we have more trainers
as resources.
- We need to develop better evaluations of who really needs these rooms, and
how to determine scheduling but that's another topic to be dealt with a little
later.
- We are going to look into possibilities of assigning classrooms in pairs
so faculty can switch between tech and non-tech rooms with their partner.
- We need to provide workshops not only in how to use the equipment, but new
ways to teach with this equipment.
Actions:
- Jim will give Kathleen the list of all classrooms Level 3 and above.
- Kathleen will run an SMS report that tells us all faculty who will be using
these classrooms next quarter.
- Brian will create a draft email setting up training for these faculty. He'll
run the draft by this group first.
- Brian will access some listservs to see how other colleges train their faculty
with classroom tech equipment.
- We will meet again in 2 weeks. Brian will set up a time and try to make
it a teleconference.
- After our next meeting we will each take a section of tech classrooms and
contact the faculty that teach in them, and set up a training period approx.
2 weeks before this quarter ends.
