HOW CAN I USE WEB-ENHANCED LEARNING IN MY COURSES?

Imagine! Place your syllabus, lecture notes, quizzes, exams, and even discussion threads on the Web to facilitate easy access by your students!

Imagine! Using those resources in interactive ways that enhance learning in new and different ways.

Adding Web-Enhanced elements to your curriculum is easy! Just attend the upcoming training at Pierce College's Web-Enhanced Curriculum Development Institute.

There you'll learn how to leverage the web, using Blackboard software and other tools to be able to take your grounded instruction to new heights!

In two weeks, you will learn how to use the Web-Enhanced learning principles to improve the learning experiences of your students.

WHAT CAN WEB-ENHANCEMENT DO TO IMPROVE MY COURSES?

Adding Web-Enhanced elements to your curriculum can enhance what you are already doing in your classroom as well as offer new methods of interacting with information. It can:

  • provide tutorials, guidelines and resources.
  • promote & monitor web-research
  • provide a central meeting place for students to obtain resources, share information, and ask questions outside of normal class hours
  • increase time-management (instructor's can refer repeated questions to their web site)
  • help students develop strategies to access and screen information.
  • provide interactive testing
  • increase student's computer skills
  • reduce printing costs
  • shift burden of responsibility (when student miss a class, send them to your website for details.)
  • enhance communication among students and faculty .
  • publicize research and other opportunities for students.
  • stimulate classroom collaboration and community.

 

WHAT WILL I LEARN IN THE WECDI?

At the end of this course you will have developed your own website through Blackboard that will enhance one of your grounded classes.

You will learn how to determine and place the most effective web resources in your particular course in order to maximize student learning.

In order to accomplish this you will learn to:

  1. Perform the basic essential functions of Blackboard
  2. Effectively design your curriculum with web-enhanced tools
  3. Augment your materials with web-based research
  4. Assess the communication effectiveness of your own and fellow students web-enhanced courses.


WHO CAN ATTEND?

Any Pierce College faculty member can participate that meets the basic criteria:

  • Have basic computer skills (ie: able to access the Internet, use email, keyboarding and mouse skills, upload files to the internet)
  • Commit to participate in the complete institute.


STIPEND

Stipends are contingent upon available funds. To receive a stipend the faculty member must:

  • Attend the entire Institute
  • Plan and Create a Blackboard web-enhanced course
  • Showcase your web-enhanced class at a faculty event
