Welcome

Camtasia is a screen capture program but unlike the print screen function in windows it will record your screen as video. To learn about the tools and layout of Camtasia Click here. To view a video tutorial of these steps Click here.

1.To begin open Camtasia. When the program loads it will automatically pop up the window that asks what you want to do (seen right). Since we are just starting we will choose the first option and begin by recording the screen.

Click here to see the next window.

2. This is the record wizard it will ask you if you want to record an area of your screen, a specific window, or the entire screen. It will also give you the option to record sound while recording the screen. Click to record the entire screen and check the audio to record as well.

Click here or the next recording setup picture to see the next window.

3. Camtasia should automatically find your microphone. To check if it works make a sound and the green bar should move. Now you should be ready to continue.

This window should appear (seen left). Do not close it but you may minimize it.

4. Get the screen ready to record by opening the window or the program you want to record.

When everything is ready push the F9 key and begin doing your thing. Also remember that it is recording sound.

When you finish your recording push the F10 key to stop. It will now interlace your audio into the video. This may take a little while. It will also ask where you want to save the file.

5. After saving it you can now relax, congratulations you now have an avi file of your presentation. Mind you it is way too big too have as a web presentation but we will now fix that.

Back in Camtasia you will find your recording in the bin. If not, no worries just "import video" and find the avi file where you saved it.

6. Click and hold the icon in the bin and drag it into your timeline. Now click the "produce video as".

For web I suggest exporting as a flash movie (seen top right).

7. Now click "Next" twice until you get to the video size options (seen bottom right). Choose the 640x480 to keep you file size small.

8. Click "Next" three times and name the file and choose where you want to save it.

Click finish and let it render and compress. When it finishes it will show a window with the file properties and size.

You are now finished. You should have an avi and a swf of your presentation.
