How Do I.....Scan Text?
1. Put your document face down on the flatbed scanner next to your computer.
2.
Click on Start > All Programs > HP > HP Director
3.

Click on Scan Document

4.
  • Be sure the radio button next to Document is selected
  • Select Yes for Scan for editable text (OCR)
  • Scan to: Save to File
  • Check Show Preview

  • Then click SCAN (note- it may take several seconds before doing anything)

5.

You will see your document with a box around it. Click and hold on the top corner of the box and drag down so it fits your document. (You may need to do this to all corners to make it fit.

6.

Click Accept

7.

When it prompts you if you want to scan another image, click No if you are finished, or Yes if you have more pages to scan.

8.

If you clicked NO

  • It will prompt you to save the file.
  • Choose the destination of where you want to save the file. ie: Desktop
  • VERY IMPORTANT.....save as a Rich Text File

9.

If you clicked YES

  • Remove the document from the scanner and put another document in face down.
  • Click New Scan

  • Repeat the resizing of the scanned area by dragging the handles down to fit the new document.

  • Click Accept

  • When it prompts you to scan another image...continue repeating this process until you are finished scanning all your pages
    • Note- For larger jobs, you may find it safer to scan approx. 10 pages at a time then save it all. (You'd hate to have spend an hour scanning 30 pages then have the computer crash and have to do it all over again).
  •

  • When you are finished scanning, choose NO when prompted

  • Save to your desired destination and again be sure to have saved it as a Rich Text Document

10.

Now you can open up and edit your document in a word editor such as Word or Word Perfect.
