Their web site is not very smooth or easy to browse, but it does include useful information on prevention programs, the Youth Substance Abuse Prevention Initiative, Workplace Managed Care (WMC) Initiative, the National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information, publicity campaigns on prevention, a searchable list of substance abuse prevention & treatment web sites, and a calendar of related conferences and meetings. Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA)
This national organization of community coalitions fighting the problems associated with substance abuse and violence provides useful anti-drug information. National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc
This is the place to look if you need quick, easy access to a definition of alcoholism, facts about alcoholism and other drug addictions, activities you can use to raise awareness in your community (like press releases and public service announcements), health information about drinking, national intervention network, information for parents wanting to talk to their kids about drinking, and a very useful resource and referral guide. Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD)
A useful report, the "SADD-Liberty Mutual Teens Today" report, describes and examines the results of two surveys of parents and teens regarding the behaviors and concerns of teens in the U.S. in 2000. If you take a look at the "2000 X 2000 Campaign Pages" you can access information distributed by SADD, including tips for parents raising healthy and responsible teens, and information on how media, law enforcement, and businesses can get involved with SADD. ERIC (Educational Resources Information Center) EC provides information on the education of individuals with disabilities as well as those who are gifted. Our inclusion of information is not an endorsement of viewpoints, reports, products, or services. Their web site provides information valuable to these and related subjects. Search through databases for articles in journals and magazines related to these topics in the "Search the Databases" section. If you're looking for basic information and documents about topics like "Common Myths About Gifted Students," "Planning Accessible Conferences and Meetings," "Toys and Accessories for Children with Disabilities," or other articles, try the "Fact Sheets, Minibibs" section. The "National Parent Information Network" area provides information about these topics for parents with children who have different abilities from the general public. AskERIC
ERIC (Educational Resources Information Center) provides this research source as a means of getting vital information to those who need it. A "Question and Answer Service" allows you to ask questions about education-related topics and an information specialist will personally answer and will send you a list of citations for books and articles about your topic. Their Virtual Library includes lesson plans, "InfoGuides," Television Series Companion Guides, and searchable archives of education-related discussion lists. You can also search the ERIC database, just like the database in the library, to find books, articles, and other documents related to education. Solemates: The Century in Shoes
This site has a decade-by-decade historical tour of footwear fashions from the 1900s to the 1990s. You'll also find a section for called "Before this Decade" that covers 8,000 B.C.E. to the late 1800s. This site belongs to Veterinary Services - an arm of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS).
