About the Campus Safety Department
Pierce College does not tolerate criminal or illegal activities in its facilities or on its grounds. The college encourages employees, students and visitors to immediately report any such activities - including threats, harassment or family violence to Campus Safety so they may be dealt with in a timely and consistent manner.
While every member of the college community shares responsibility for campus safety and security, the Campus Safety Department takes the lead in this area. Administrative responsibility lies with the Vice President of Administrative Services and the District Director of Safety & Security.
The Campus Safety Department has a non-commissioned security force of four full-time and approximately fifteen part-time officers. These officers are authorized to request identification from any individual who is on the grounds of the college.
Employees of the Campus Safety Department conduct both foot and vehicle patrols. These employees enforce the laws and regulations that govern conduct on campus.
All Campus Security Officers have received First Aid and CPR training and additional instruction in emergency response. While department personnel are not armed, they are equipped with radios capable of contacting the Lakewood Police & Fire Departments, Puyallup Police & Fire Departments, and emergency medical services.
