Associate in Accounting

Students will:

  • Possess the necessary skills to perform basic functions of entry level bookkeeping/accounting positions, e.g.:
    • accounting/bookkeeping clerk or assistant Accountant/Jr. accountant
    • Management trainee
    • Business owner
  • Know how to apply related accounting knowledge such as taxation, payroll, auditing in performing accounting/bookkeeping functions/work.
  • Use computer and related tools to perform financial reports and management reports.
  • Be aware of the ethical issues facing the profession and the value of a responsible citizen.
  • Understand choices for professional development and career change.

Certificate in Practical Accounting

Students will:

  • Possess knowledge of and be ready to perform basic functions of bookkeeping/accounting procedures and duties as required in the entry level bookkeeping/accounting positions, for example:
    • Assistant bookkeeper/accountant
    • Accounting trainee
    • Business owner
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using accounting computer software (e.g. Peachtree and QuickBooks) to do basic bookkeeping/accounting and prepare basic accounting reports.
  • Be prepared to pursue opportunities for professional development, career change, and pursuance of Associate and higher degrees in Accounting or related disciplines.

Related Instruction Outcomes

  • Communication: Graduates identify, analyze, and evaluate rhetorical strategies in one’s own and other’s writing in order to communicate effectively.
  • Computation: Graduates utilize mathematical, symbolic, logical, graphical, geometric, or statistical analysis for the interpretation and solution of problems in the natural world and human society.
  • Human Relations: Graduates will be able to respond by examining the relationship between self, community, and environments, evaluating potential impacts and consequences of actions, and making choices and contributions based on that examination and evaluation.
