Advising step-by-step
Connecting with your advisor
- Check for your advisor's name in Student Online Services
- To select a new advisor: submit a Personal Data Change form to the records office.
Running Start students
Visit the Running Start site for information about admission, advising, and more.
New & returning students
Before getting advised, check the steps to get started! (Advising is step #4.)
If you are a former Pierce College student who has been absent for one quarter or more, including summer, then you are a returning student. Returning students may need to complete assessment testing. See the Testing Center site for more information.
- Figure out when you can begin registration. Check the Bulletin or ask the Advising Center.
- Before your registration date, visit the Advising Center during walk-in hours. Bring:
- transcripts from all Colleges and Universities you may have attended (these can be “unofficial” transcripts)
- Asset or Compass assessment score sheet
- registration form (download a registration form (PDF) or pick up a paper copy on campus)
- An advisor will help you determine your course schedule, depending on your goals, and sign your registration form.
Current students
Make sure you have your SID available!
- Use Student Online Services to check when you may begin registration.
- If you are approved for self-advising, you will receive a Registration Access Code in the mail.
- If you are not self-advised, schedule an appointment with your faculty advisor several days prior to your assigned registration time. Your advisor will check your progress on your education plan and help you to select courses. Your advisor will also sign your paper registration form or provide you with your Registration Access Code.
