2011 Baseball Team

Season Outlook

The Raider Baseball team is getting ready to kick off the 2011 spring schedule with one of its toughest pre-season schedules in recent years. Second year head coach Mike Nadeau has scheduled most of the teams from the North Division (Edmonds, Everett, Bellevue, Skagit, Shoreline), hoping to help prepare the team for a very tough league. "We know our league schedule in the West will be tough this year, there are a lot of great teams and we have the defending champs (Lower Columbia) to play 4 times this year."

The pre-season gets started March 5th at home against Shoreline CC.

The success of this year's team rests on the shoulders of the veteran pitching staff. The Raiders have four sophomores that should get the bulk of the innings this year. Returners Dylan Brown and Andrew Jacobsen are the lone returners from last season's staff. New additions Drew Staples (transfer TVCC) and Nathan Bunch (BYU) will help with their power pitching. Freshman Brian Corliss (Todd Beamer / GR), Jacob Phillips (Auburn Mountainview HS) and Elliot Morris (Federal Way HS) will also contribute to what looks to be a very solid staff.

As for the Raiders offense, Coach Nadeau will look to many players to help manufacture runs this year. Sophomore returners Derek Voigt (2nd Team All-Star in 2010) and Josh Wilder will lead a very strong outfield while freshmen Miles Nagel, Zach Corpus (Kentwood HS), Colton Nash (Bonney Lake HS), and TJ Horsfall (Federal Way HS) are also expected to contribute.

The infield will be anchored by sophomore Joey Leinweber and transfer Jerret Hardy (Grays Harbor CC). Freshmen Des Santos (Mt Rainer HS), Brian Corliss, Josh Potter (Mt Rainer HS), Jacob Phillips will also see a lot of time on the diamond this spring.

JR Camacho will manage the pitching staff behind the plate this year and Nadeau is looking for steady leadership from his sophomore catcher. "I'm expecting great things out of JR this year. He has matured a ton from last year, and getting the experience as a freshman will help him with the great staff we have."

Despite the tough pre-season schedule, Coach Nadeau is confident the Raiders will be ready to meet the challenge. "We have an outstanding group of players this year, and I'm looking forward to the season. If we stay focused and compete every day on the field we should put ourselves in a great position at the end of the season."
