Men's Basketball Team

Season Outlook

The 2013-14 Raider Men's Basketball squad returns four players from last year's West Division champions, a team that set a school record, going 15-1 during league, and 25-6 overall. An 8th place finish at the NWAACC Championships fell short of the team's goal to bring home an NWAACC title, but left the returning sophomores hungry for a return to the March classic in Tri-Cities this year.

The Raiders are led by returning sophomore guards Gary Jacobs, David Jeffries, Devin Matthews, and Chris Parker. Parker was an All-Defensive Team selection in '13, and looks to lead the Raiders attack on the defensive end. Play makers Matthews and Jacobs should provide the leadership on the offensive end for Pierce.John Palmer and Derek Porter, along with sophomore transfer Tyrell Lewis (North Idaho College).

The Raiders will rely once again on a defense-first philosophy that has helped propel the team to the NWAACC Championship Tournament five times in the past ten seasons. Head Coach Bill Mendelson (Coach of the Year in the West in 2013)has assembled another talented freshman class that should help return the Raiders to the playoffs.

Transfers Isaac Barsh (6'5 - Tacoma CC) and Mark Royster (5'9 - New Mexico Inst.), will provide depth to the Raider sophomores. The Raiders bring in a true big man this season, in the name of Paul Loranger (6'10 - Tahoma HS), who should help control the boards. David Baze (6'6 - Las Vegas, NV), Alex Johnson (6'5 - Olympia HS), and Keaton Corr (6'4 - Post Falls, ID), will all provide support on the boards, as well as some scoring punch. Michael Porchia-Rollins (5'11 - Mt. Tahoma HS) should prove to be a consistent deep threat from beyond the arc.

This group has the potential to make another solid run in the always competitive West Division. It should be an exciting year for Raiders Basketball!
