Coach Estis and the Raiders sent off the four sophomores in style on Wednesday night beating Lower Columbia 66-61 at home in front of a tremendous crowd there to honor the sophomores and watch student body president Yens (Fort Steilacoom) defeat student body president Dave (Puyallup) in a half-time shooting contest. Also, Jim Taylor led an impressive turnout of Pierce College employees who turned out to support the Raiders.
The Raiders, 12-15 & 5-10, led 31-22 at the half and held on to win despite turning the ball over 25 times. Pierce was led by Donnie Woods (17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists) who was one of four sophomores honored in the pre-game ceremony. In addition, Dio Cadogan (9 points, 3 rebounds) and Josh Warren (8 points) celebrated the victory in their last home game as a Raider.
Freshmen sensation Terrance Troupe led the way with 16 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists. The Raider defense was the story. A group effort preserved the home victory (5-4 at home this year), forcing Lower Columbia to 19 turnovers and 2-16 shooting from the three point line.

Tough Night for Raider Basketball

The Raiders are limping home, losing their last four games and for the second time to Clark College, 86-74. After a slow start, the Raiders rallied and the cut the game to seven points late on a Demetrius Crosby (18 points and 14 rebounds) field goal, but the early deficit was too much to overcome. Pierce trailed 42-30 at the half, but 5 of 22 shooting from the three point line dropped the Raiders to 11-15.
The women's team also endured some stress losing 100-36 at home on Saturday night. Erika Lastimado led the way with 15 points and 14 rebounds in the drubbing. Pierce remains winless in the NWAACC Western Division at 0-14.

Women's Team is Better than Record Shows
$thisCategory = "Women's Basketball"?>
The Raiders Women's basketball team is only seven in depth but hundred's in heart. Fighting lack of size, experience and numbers, the ladies have battled all year long. Even though the team is winless in the NWAACC Western Division (0-13), with three games to go, there are many bright stars in the program.
Both freshmen Paula Pritchard and Natasha Rice are among the scoring leaders. Pritchard averages 10.8 ppg and 4 apg. Rice averages 9.3 ppg and 8 rebounds. In addition, Ashley German and Jamie Conklin have put up impressive numbers at times, along with super sub Sarah Brown. Sarah had a career high 9 points vs Olympic College in December. The Raiders are often over matched with the size of their opponent, but are seen diving for loose balls late in the second half with the game already decided on the scoreboard.
As the Pierce Basketball Women's team regroups, we are set to send off Sophomores Erika Lastimado and Jennifer McGinnis on Sophomore Night, this Wednesday at 8:00pm at the Lakewood Community Center vs Lower Columbia College. McGinnis has been a leader on the scoreboard all year, twice scoring 27 points in one game. Erika is the team leading scorer at 16.5 ppg and scored over 20 points in four games. Pierce Basketball is up and coming and with five of the team members freshmen, the coaching staff is recruiting hard to reload and put the Raiders on top of the NWAACC.
