Baseball Prepares for Centralia

Coach Muche and the Pierce Raiders look to improve on their 5-3 record with a weekend series with Centralia College. This is the NWAACC Conference Opener for the Raiders under first year Head Coach Brett Muche.

Pierce just returned from the Yakima Valley Tournament where their went 1-2. The Raiders already have 5 wins and only won 6 total last season. Pierce will play at Centralia at 12:00pm noon on Saturday, March 30 and then again on Sunday, March 31st, at Peterson Field at 1:00pm.

Pierce, preparing to make a run at the NWAACC postseason, will play 17 games in the month of April.

Baseball Splits; Record Goes to 4-1

The Raiders went on the road this past weekend for a double header against Linn-Benton Community College. In the first game, they played good baseball for 25 of the 27 outs but couldn’t hold onto the win. The Raiders carried the game into the bottom of the ninth but then lost giving up four runs and the game winning double. Great defense was displayed by Ryan Snow (2B), Justin O’Brien (3B), and Drew McGregor (C) making an amazing play at the plate and then thowing out a runner diving into third base for the inning ending double play.
After the tough loss in the first game, the Raiders came out strong in the second game of the double header. Pitcher Brian Benner (2-0) put on an excellent performance carring the tempo of the game and giving up no earned runs. Freshman Kyle Patterson (P) came in for the last inning getting an important out, and Carlos Rodriguez (P) finished up getting the last two outs of the game for the save. Pierce won 5-4, pushing their record to 4-1.
They play again on Tuesday, March 19, in Everett and then leave for a Tournament in Yakima.

Basketball Awards Dinner Announces MVP and Others

The 2001-2002 Basketball season is now completed as Pierce College held its annual awards dinner on Tuesday night. The headline men's award was given to Demetrius Crosby. He finished his career at Pierce College being named the team MVP along with NWAACC All-Conference.

The women's team also awarded MVP and All NWAACC to Erika Lastimado. Both Lastimado and Crosby will play in the NWAACC All-Star game this Sunday at Edmonds Community College. Other women's awards included Most Inspirational, Paula Pritchard and the Coaches' Award to Jennifer McGinnis

The rest of the men's awards included Terrance Troupe receiving the KLAY Radio 1180 AM Hard Hat Award and the Coaches' Award. Josh Mullins received the Most Improved Award. The dinner turnout was a huge success as Pierce also honored Neil Quarles, who resigned after four years as the Women's Head Coach.

Coach Fia Looks For Volleyball Assistant Coach

The highly successful women's volleyball team at Pierce College is looking to replace assistant coach Nathalie Zukowski who resigned to become a high school coach. Raider Baseball Games Canceled

The Raider Baseball doubleheader vs the University of Cariboo was cancelled on Sunday because the Canadian team could not make it down to Lakewood to play. The Pierce Raiders will next play Gray's Harbor College on Wednesday, March 13th at 6:00pm at Olympic Stadium. Pierce does not return home until Sunday, March 31st at 1:00pm vs Centralia College at Peterson Field.

Raider Baseball Starts Season By Winning Tournament

The Raider started their season off strong by winning the 2002 Pierce College Baseball Tournament defeating Seattle University, Capilano College and Shoreline CC.

Paul Richardson, pitcher, started the first game, winning 3-2 on a game winning double by Jeff Vanderbilt (OF), giving Kyle Nelson the win. (1-0) Pierce stepped it up in Game 2 beating Seattle University 9-2. Brian Benner (1-0) got the win. Great defense was led by Scott Holstad (1B), Casey Huntzinger (C,DH) and Ryan Snow (SS).

The championship game against Capiliano College was won 10-3. Freshmen Matt Hunn (P) threw a three-hitter in the victory. The Raiders play at home on Sunday at 10:00am with a doubleheader vs. The University of Cariboo at Peterson Field.
