Raider soccer loses twice tough week

The Pierce College soccer team struggled this week losing twice. Earlier in the week they lost 8-0 in Vancouver to Clark College. Then on Saturday afternoon, despite beautiful weather, the team lost 7-0 to Shoreline at Peterson Field in Lakewood.

Despite being outscored 19-0 over the past few games, Pierce is hoping to turn the season around with a pair of games at the home field in Fort Steilacoom Park this weekend. At 5 p.m. Friday Pierce tackles Umpqua and then at 1 p.m. Saturday the team meets Southwest Oregon.

Women fall in conference opener at home

Our Raiders lost in four games to conference rival Highline Community College on Friday afternoon at the Lakewood Community Center. Pierce, now 8-8 overall and 0-1 in the league, is preparing for a run at another conference championship. Despite beginning the season at 6-2, Pierce has struggled of late, losing six of eight.

Pierce will continue league play on the road versus Green River and Gray's Harbor this week. Pierce will host the mid-season crossover tournament on Nov. 1 and 2 at Lakewood Community Center. For complete details, call Raider Athletics at (253) 964-6614.

Volleyball loses thriller in five games

Pierce College lost an exciting five-game match on Tuesday night against Edmonds College. After taking the first game, Pierce dropped the next two. Pierce won the fourth game to send the match to a thrilling game five. The game, held at the Lakewood Community Center, finally ended after 10:30 p.m. local time.

Pierce fell to 8-7 overall and return home on Friday night to play Highline College in the conference opener set to be played at Steilacoom High School.

"We just need to get back to practice. We need to get ready for conference play, " said Fia Faatoafe, head volleyball coach.

Volleyball experiences tough road trip

The young and enthusiastic Pierce volleyball team experienced how tough life can be on the road over the weekend. The long trip began with a loss at Bellevue on Thursday night (Bellevue vs Pierce 30-22,30-24,30-17 in three straight games).

Next was the long trip east of the mountains to the prestigious Spokane Tournament. Of five games Pierce was able to salvage two wins in consolation play. (Whatcom vs Pierce 24-30,30-28,30-25,27-30,15-6 Spokane vs Pierce 30-14,30-21,30-16)

On Saturday, the Raiders played three matches. (Pierce vs Edmonds 34-36,30-27,30-28,30-25 Pierce vs Big Bend 30-18,30-21,30-24 Treasure Valley vs Pierce 30-24,31-29,30-12)

The Raiders are now 8-6 overall and host Edmonds on Tuesday night at 8 p.m. at the Lakewood Community Center.
