Pierce defeats Penninsula 92-98

Pierce College resumed play after the Christmas break overcoming Penninsula College 98-92.

"We looked sluggish most of the game, but managed to hang on. We had five players in double figures. It was a real team effort," commented Coach Jason Scales.

Cory McJimson scored 21 while Craig Schweikl was 5 for 5 from three-point range, scoring a season high 19 points. The Raiders begin their league schedule taking on cross-town rival Tacoma College at the Lakewood Community Center Thursday, Jan. 2.

Two wins, one loss in NWAACC Crossover for Pierce

The Raider men finished in fifth place in the NWAACC Crossover hosted by Linn-Benton College in Albany, Ore. Johnny Dukes averaged 16 points per game and 11 rebounds per game and Cory McJimson averaged 21 points per game to lead the Raiders to a 2-1 record in the tournament. In Thursday competition the Raiders were defeated by tournament champion Yakima College 78-86. Seth Davis scored 18 points and Johnny Dukes had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Friday the Raiders used a strong second half and 25 points from Cory McJimson to defeated Olympic College 104-89. Saturday in the consolation bracket the Raiders defeated the Columbia Basin Hawks 74-87. The Raiders put four players double digits including Josh Mullins, Darius Vaielua, Dukes, and McJimson led by as many as 25 points in the second half. Dukes was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Pierce Women lose two in NWAACC Crossover

The Raider Women's Basketball team was unable the win in two tries as hosted the NWAACC Crossover at the Lakewood Community Center. The Raiders were defeated by Seattle College 79-64 despite strong efforts by Tiffany Stewart's with 21 points and 17 rebounds and Kim Wynn's 18 points. In Saturdays game the Raiders were unable to muster a strong second half and lost to Spokane College 78-45. The Raiders got 10 points from Ashley German while Tiffany Stewart added 7 rebounds. The losses drop the Raiders to 1-6 overall, but they are looking for a strong second half after the break.

Whatcom's hot shooting defeats Pierce

The Raider Men's Basketball team couldn't overcome the hot shooting of Whatcom College and were defeated 90-73. The Orchas shot 50% from the floor and 11-20 from the three point line to dominate the Raiders at the Lakewood Community Center. Whatcom was lead by 21 points from both James Fritts and Chad William. The Raiders got 16 points from Darius Vaielua and 14 points from Johnny Dukes.

Last second heroics give Pierce Women a win 71-70

In their home opener the Raiders earned thier first victory of the season. Kim Wynn nailed two free throws in the last seconds to defeat Peninsula 71-70. The Raiders were lead by 18 points from Ashley German and 15 rebounds by Tiffany Stewart.

Pierce uses strong second half to defeat Portland

The Raider Men turned a slow first half into a dominating win at Portland 91-80. Pierce College shot 69% and outscored the Portland Panthers 59-43 in the second half to over come a 5 point halftime deficit. The Raiders had four players in double figures lead by Johnny Dukes 20 points and 10 rebounds. The Panthers were lead by 23 points from Sean Douglas. Pierce pushed their record to 2-1 overall looking for their next contest versus Whatcom on December 13.
