The Raiders took to the road on December 20 to earn a decisive 83-72 league victory against the Chokers of Grays Harbor CC. Pierce was led by a season-high 27 points from Clem Benton to go along with 7 steals, followed by Devon Conner-Green (13), Anthony Calogero (11), and Trivone Curry (10, and 9 rebounds). Pierce (1-1, 7-3) travel to Seattle on December 30 for a non-league game against the Storm, before resuming league play on January 2, when they host Highline CC.
Pierce opened league play on December 17, as they lost a close one to Centralia CC, 76-69. The Raiders wasted an outstanding effort by Ryan Vaught (18 points, 7 steals, 7 assists) in the loss.

The Raider Women celebrated an early Christmas with a 73-71 victory on the road against Grays Harbor CC, on December 20. The win snapped a 34 game losing streak in league play, dating back to February 21, 2001 (a win against cross-town rival TCC, 46-45). The Raiders fought back from large deficits in both the first and second halves of play, and pulled out the win on an off-balance lay-in by Kelly Thompson that rattled around the rim and dropped through the net at the final buzzer. The Raiders were led in scoring by their guard trio of Jessica Riippi (18), Shayla Reynolds (16), and Thompson (14); Tiffany Stewart led the Raiders with 9 rebounds. Pierce, now 1-1 in league play (2-7 overall), will host Portland CC in a non-league contest on December 27 (5:00 p.m.), before returning to league competition at home against Highline CC on January 2, at 6:00 p.m.
The Raiders lost their league opener at home on December 17, 64-42, to Centralia Community College. Pierce was led in scoring by Vanessa Caskey and Tiffany Stewart, each with 8 points.

Pierce College Athletic Director, Duncan Stevenson, announced that Raider Basketball will begin it's third season of radio broadcasts on KLAY 1180AM. The broadcast schedule opens this Wednesday night, December 17, as the Raiders open league play hosting the Trailblazers of Centralia Community College. The Raider Women, led by second year head coach Tim Quiroz, will tip off against Centralia at 6:00 p.m. The Men, under first year head coach Bill Mendelson will start at 8:00 p.m. Scott Overbo, the 'Voice of the Raiders', returns as the anchor of the announcing crew for this year's broadcasts.

The Raiders lost a tough one to Skagit Valley CC, in Mount Vernon on Saturday night, 68-60. Pierce, with four players suffering from the flu, built an early first half lead (17-6) only to have the host Cardinals fight back to trail by 4 points at halftime, 29-25. Skagit Valley, using a full court press entering the second half, wore down the struggling Raider offense, and went on for the victory. Pierce's Shayla Reynolds led all scorers with 21 points, to go along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Kelly Thompson added 13 points and 5 rebounds, followed by Jessica Riippi's 11 points and 5 assists. The Raiders (1-6 in pre-season) open league play this Wednesday when they host the Centralia CC Trailblazers (7-1). The game tips off at 6:00 p.m. at the Lakewood Community Center, and can be heard on KLAY 1180AM.

Walla Walla Community College beat the Peninsula CC Pirates, 91-79, to win the championship game of the NWAACC Western Region Men's Crossover Tournament, hosted by Pierce College, on Sunday, December 14. The host Raiders snuck by Mt. Hood CC, 66-65, in the consolation game, to take home third place honors. Pierce lost a close game to Peninsula on Saturday night, 69-64, just missing out on the chance to play in the title game of their own tournament. Pierce's Clem Benton was named to the All Tournament Team. Walla Walla's Robert Pankowski was named tournament MVP. For complete tournament scores, check out the NWAACC website, www.nwaacc.org
