Raiders name Harris as new Head Coach for Volleyball

May 13, 2004 @ 12:43 pm

Dottie Harris has been named as the new head coach for the Pierce College Raider Volleyball program, following 21 successful seasons as the head coach of the Bellarmine Preparatory School varsity volleyball team (1980 – 2001).

Pierce College athletes and program officials have high hopes for Harris, according to Duncan Stevenson, director of district athletics and recreation.

“We are very excited about Dottie’s ability to return the Pierce volleyball program to its former elite status in the NWAACC when the Raiders captured four consecutive Western Division titles (1997-2000), and qualified for the conference tournament in six of the past eight years,” Stevenson said. “Coach Harris brings a wealth of coaching experience to her new position, and we believe that her competitive approach to the game along with her local ties will be the special touch that puts the Raiders back on top.”

A physical education and health teacher at Bellarmine for 25 years, Harris also has directed and/or coached at volleyball camps for University of Washington and Western Washington University. In addition to her new coaching position at Pierce, Harris plans to continue teaching and coaching at Bellarmine.

She earned a bachelor’s degree from Chapman University, where she starred as a three-sport varsity athlete. She recently completed her master’s in education at Lesley University.
