The Raider Volleyball team, under first year Head Coach Paige Tisserand, opened their 2005 Western Division league schedule with a decisive 3-0 victory over visiting Grays Harbor on Friday. The scores for the three games were 30-21, 30-26, and 30-25. Under beautiful skies on Tuesday, the men’s soccer team could not complain about the weather as they won 2-1 on the road tonight in Vancouver against Clark College. Despite coming off a disappointing loss at home against Southwest Oregon, the Raiders looked to continue their building success as a team. The Raiders played a hard fought match, working off a strong defense and set offensive plays. In the 20th minute midfielder Francis Carvalho struck a beautiful free kick over Clark’s defensive wall and into the back of the net. Throughout the rest of the half the Raiders were impenetrable defensively and possessed the ball well throughout the midfield. Clark scored their lone goal in the 50th minute, but the Raiders answered right back with a goal coming from defender Anthony Owens in the 58th minute off a free kick causing a scramble in Clark’s defensive backfield. “ We were able to communicate with each other out there”, said head coach Aaron Howe. “Positive actions get positive results. We came here today to win, and we accomplished that goal. Today’s match should send a message to the rest of the NWAACC that the Raiders are for real.”
The Raiders look to continue their recent success at home this weekend as they host Spokane Friday at 2:00pm and Walla Walla Saturday at 1:00pm. Both matches will be held at Fort Steilacoom Park, in Lakewood. Come out to see your favorite player and support your Raiders!

The Raider men’s soccer team lost a hard fought match, 2-0 at their home opener on Saturday at Peterson Field against Southwest Oregon. Despite very cold and wet field conditions the Raiders had the upper hand for most of the contest. With incredible team effort and individual composure, the Raiders dominated possession early in the first half. With strong offensive pressure and movement off the ball forward #14 Ricky Martin broke free 10 minutes into the match to have a one-on-one with Southwest goalkeeper Travis Comini. Martin’s shot was saved by the fingertips of the outstretched goalkeeper. “Just unlucky! I was sure I had it, I can’t believe it did not go in”, said Martin. “I had the keeper going one way and picked out the opposite corner perfectly. His hand came out of no where.” Both teams struggled in ‘early winter’ weather conditions, playing most of the first half in a heavy downpour. The Raiders put forth a very strong effort, but were unable to connect for a goal. Southwest Oregon was able to take advantage of the weather conditions with goals coming in the 72nd and 89th minute of play. “This was not our day”, said head coach Aaron Howe. “The weather did not coincide with our style of play. It was nasty out there!”
The Raiders take on Clark College this Tuesday in Vancouver and look to re-take first place in league play. Match time is at 5:00 p.m.

The Raiders opened Fall 2005 league play with a 2-1 victory over rival South Puget Sound CC on Tuesday, September 6. Pierce, trailing 1-0 at halftime, used two second half goals to take the victory and an early first place standing atop the Southern Division of the NWAACC. Freshman Ricky Martin forced an "own goal" by the Clippers at 57:00 minutes, and scored the winning goal at 67:00, on an assist by Matthew Herrera.
The Raiders, who return only three players from last year's team, are a young and talented group.
