The Raiders men’s soccer home match on Tuesday ended 5-2 in a thriller against South Puget Sound. Down 0-2 at half the Raiders would not take no for an answer as they stepped on the pitch a determined team scoring 2 goals in the first 6 minutes of the second half. Forward Mike Holmes and Midfielder Brett Perry made their presence known as they challenged the Clipper’s defense, forcing a goal each, less than 2 minutes apart. The Raiders played sound defense and had great composure through the midfield, playing high pressure and causing South Puget Sound to collapse defensively. The third goal came from an excellent through-ball played by Forward J’Maar Aina to connect with Holmes who would have a successful one-on-one with the keeper to score his second goal of the night. Using high pressure the Raiders were able to collect a penalty kick, that Midfielder Francis Carvalho converted for the Raiders’ third goal of the match. Beginning to get comfortable with their lead, the Raiders were yet to finish their goal-scoring run as Midfielder Manuel Garcia produced a beautiful corner kick finished by Perry to collect his second goal of the night. Showing sparks of brilliance on the pitch, the Raiders showed much of their true potential as a goal scoring team. Having an up and down season so far, the Raiders continue to show prove that they have what it takes to develop into a solid program. “Soccer, like life, has its way of evening itself out,” said assistant coach Dan Hicker. “Hard work and dedication never goes unnoticed and is always rewarded. These boys have what it takes!”
The Raiders look to continue their momentum this weekend as they travel to take on Southwest Oregon on Saturday.

The Raiders men’s soccer home match on Friday against Wenatchee Valley ended in a 0-0 tie. Coming off of a rough travel schedule, the Raiders were able to get over the hump and come together for what was their best performance of the season. “Wenatchee Valley was not expecting this,” said head coach Aaron Howe. “We raised the bar today with this performance!” Despite the wet and slippery weather conditions, the Raiders played much of the match to their potential and nearly handed Wenatchee Valley their first loss of the season. Forward Thomas Burphy came the closest to scoring in the second half when his shot from 20yrds out hit the crossbar and bounced down in front of the goal line.
The Raiders are now in a race for the playoffs as they reach the halfway point of the season. Midfielder Thomas Bressler, one of 4 returning sophomores, gave nothing but positive feedback after the game. He was asked how he felt about the program. “We are looking for a championship! I think today’s performance sends a message that we are coming together as a team and we are ready to bring it to the best of the teams in the NWAACC!”
The Raiders play an important home match against Tacoma Community College at Peterson Field Monday @4pm. Please come out and support your Raiders!
