Raider Women drop league opener

The Raiders playing short-handed dropped their league opener to the Clippers of South Puget Sound CC on Wednesday night in Olympia, 56-47. The Raiders, down by four at halftime, played a hard fought second half, taking the lead with five minutes to play. Sophomore center Tia Nofoa led the way for the Raiders with 16 points and 11 rebounds, but fouled out with eight minutes to play. Freshman transfer Alane Gacad, playing in her first game as a Raider, also fouled out with just under three minutes, leaving the Raiders to finish the game with just four players on the floor. Freshmen guard Leah Brooks was the only other Raider in double figures, finishing with 14 points and picking up three steals. Sophomore forward Crystal Lee chipped in six points and grabbed eight rebounds.

The Raiders open their home league schedule on Saturday when they host Highline Community College. Game time is at 5:00 p.m. at the Lakewood Community Center. This game will be broadcast live on KLAY 1180 AM.

Raiders take league opener over Clippers!

The Raider Men opened Western Division play with an impressive road win against South Puget Sound CC, Wednesday night, by a final score of 78-65. Pierce used a stifling defense in the first half to hold the Clippers to 21 first half points, to take a 15 point lead at the break. Pierce's defense held SPSCC to just 28% shooting from the field on the night. The Raiders had a balanced attack with four players scoring in double figures. Sophomore swing-man David Howard led the way with 21 points (along with 8 rebounds and 3 blocked shots), followed by Jamar Berry (14 points, 8 rebounds), Michael Wright (14 points, 12 rebounds), and Andre Thelaner (13 points). Freshman Michael Wright collected his fifth double-double of the young season.

The Raiders open their home league schedule this Saturday, when they host Highline Community College. Game time is at 7:00 p.m. at the Lakewood Community Center. You can follow the action on KLAY 1180 AM.
