Raiders Take Over First Place in the West
April 18, 2007 @ 10:52 am
Entering yesterdays doubleheader with South Puget Sound CC, the Raiders Softball team found themselves in a tie for first place in the Western Division with their rivals from down the road in Olympia.
However, the Raiders quickly dispatched the Clippers, 8-5 and 9-1, to capture sole possession of first place, with a 10-2 record in league play. The Raiders line-up features a balance of great hitting, speed on the bases, power out of the park, and some really good pitching. For you baseball fans out there that enjoy following Ichiro on his annual quest for a .300 season, make note that six Raiders are currently hitting over .400, led by Tiffany Qualls at an even .500. As a team, the Raiders have a combined .372 batting average. Jievielyn Howard hit her team leading 12th home run yesterday, just three shy of the school record (15).
Tomorrow the Raiders host Centralia CC, starting at 3:00 p.m., at Cirque Park (in U.P.). If you havent had a chance to watch these young women play, you wont want to miss it.
