Raiders Softball sweeps post season awards

In recognition of their outstanding season, the Raiders Softball team dominated the post season awards announced at the NWAACC Tournament. The record-setting Raiders team compiled a league record of 26-4 (36-15 overall) to capture their first Western Division title in 25 years, and a second consecutive trip the NWAACC Tournament. In addition to setting a Pierce record for most wins in a season, the team also broke the single season home run record, with 63 blasts.
Sophomore sensation and team captain, Kayla Jayne, led the way as she was unanimously named the Most Valuable Player in the Western Division. Teammate Kelley Suggs was named the Divisions Most Valuable Pitcher. First Team All-Star honors were awarded to; Kristi Alcorn, Sarah Curley, Jievielyn Howard, and Ashley Svarthumle. Second Team All-Stars included; Jazmin Mercado, Sarah Pruitt, Tiffany Qualls, and Kasey Swanson. Head Coach Chris DeMiero was selected as the Western Divisions Coach of the Year.
Jievielyn Howard became the first Raider ever selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Team. The red-shirt freshmen set the single season home run record with 18 this season.

Michael Wright signs with Seattle University

Michael Wright, the Raiders all-time leading rebounder, and this years Co-Most Valuable Player in the Western Division of the NWAACC, has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Seattle University for next year.

Michael led Pierce College to a 21-11 record, a third place finish at the 2007 NWAACC Tournament Championships, and was named to the All-Tournament Team. During the regular season, Michael averaged 16.5 points and 11.7 rebounds per game and shot 56.8 percent from the field (147-of-259).

Seattle University head coach Joe Callero said, "Michael is one of the most efficient rebounders I have seen in 20 years. He has a knack for the ball, is competitive, and is an overachiever. I love the versatility he brings to our program." Michael will open his career at Rupp Arena against the University of Kentucky. The game will be a re-match of the national championship game between Seattle U. and U.K., played 50 years ago.
