Dan Hicker leaves Pierce for NCAA coaching position

Dan Hicker has stepped down as the head coach of the Raiders Mens Soccer program, having accepted a new position as the Head Assistant Coach at Colorado State University-Pueblo. In his three seasons at the helm of the Raiders Soccer program, Hicker led Pierce to two playoff appearances, and compiled an overall record of 16-23-8. Hickers Raiders were 2-2 in their two trips to the postseason.
Hicker returns to CSU-Pueblo, where he enjoyed two very successful seasons as a player under current head coach Roy Stanley. The Thunderwolves finished the 2007 season with a record of 6-12, and expect that the addition of Hicker to their staff will help the team back into the playoff picture in Fall 2008.
Hickers impact with the Raiders program has been significant as he has rebuilt the program to a strongly competitive level in the NWAACC. Pierce College Puyallup President Dr. Tana Hasart shared the following on Hickers time at Pierce, "The three things I most appreciated about Dan were his professionalism, his ability to set and support high academic and sports standards for his student athletes, and his commitment to setting in place a strong foundation of success for Soccer. We will truly miss him, but also celebrate this wonderful opportunity to move closer to his dream of being a head coach at the 4-year level."
Athletic Director Duncan Stevenson, who has known Hicker since his playing days as a Raider (2000-2002) said the following, "Dan is the consummate professional. He goes above and beyond what is asked of a coach in order to put his program and his student-athletes in the best position possible to be successful. We will miss his enthusiasm, his energy, his positive attitude, and his dedication to Raiders Soccer and the Pierce College Athletic Department."

2008 Men's Soccer Alumni Game Joins Familiar Faces Once Again

On Saturday, May 3rd, for the second consecutive year, Raiders mens soccer held its annual spring season alumni match. A wet afternoon kickoff still brought great spirits to the pitch as 17 alumni faced off against the Raiders standing 2008 spring roster. A timeline of exceptional talent, the match revealed some familiar skill, and moments of spark from the alumni. However, it was not enough to earn yearly bragging rights as the Raiders standing spring roster defeated the Alumni 6-1.

A great way to show a continuing respect and pride for athletics at Pierce College, the mens soccer annual alumni matches are more than just 90 minutes of soccer.

"These games are great, and go well past the playing field. It is a time to reconnect with our programs history and continue to build for the future. It is an absolute pleasure to have our alum back on the field and have a moment to catch up on some good memories. My hope is that these matches will continue for many years to come!"

Raiders Mens Soccer to hold Spring kickarounds

The Raiders Mens Soccer team will be holding kickaround sessions for returning players, recruits, and prospective team members.
Dates: Thursdays, May 15, 22, 29, and June 5
Times: 2:30 - 4:30 pm
Place: Heritage Recreation Center, Puyallup (next to Rogers High School)

NWAACC Announces Post Season Awards for Raiders

MVP: Clarence Wright

On Wednesday, November 14th the NWAACC announced that forward Clarence Wright, midfielder Joey Fletcher, and defender Ryan Moss have been selected to the 2007 South/West All-Star team. Clarence Wright also received Most Valuable Player honors for the Southern Division; this honor represents the first Raider in the soccer programs history to be selected as MVP.

"I am very proud of the achievements that our team as a unit has accomplished this season. This is another piece of history that all have part in the making. My extended congratulations go out to our players selected to represent our program and display their skills in the All-Star game." -Head Coach, Dan Hicker

The NWAACC All-Star game will be played December 1st, 3:00 pm at Starfire Stadium. The South/West division will play the North/East division to display some of the leagues most recognized talent of the season.

Mens Soccer Season Ends in Quarter Final Loss to Spokane

The end of a great season...

The Raiders were defeated by Spokane, 5-2, in the NWAACC quarter final match on Saturday, November, 10th. A demonstration of skillful play from both teams, the Raiders, a younger team in terms of post season play could not push past the more experienced Spokane Sasquatch. "Spokane is a very mature side, and their program is consistently in the post season. They have built a strong foundation for their level of play", said head coach Dan Hicker. Chris Hanson and Seth Baker scored the Raiders two goals in a second half push in an effort to even out the score. The Raiders had some good chances late in the contest, but were unable to capitalize. The loss caps off a winning season of 7-4-5 in league play, 8-6-6 overall. This marks the second time in the past three years that the Raiders have advanced to the quarter finals. Despite the loss the team is very happy with their level of play this year.

"There is no question that this years team exemplifies the quality of play and character that is needed to succeed at this level. The team, although disappointed with the loss, is happy with the work they put into this season. Now is a time to recover and reevaluate. We must not remain static with our success, but continue to adjust and build for the future. We have a number of scheduled team meetings over the coming weeks and will begin winter indoor kickaround sessions soon. More importantly, I cannot express how proud I am of the efforts from the coaching staff, players, and fans throughout the season. Men's Soccer Win 1st Round at Home, Return to Quarters Finals

Raiders Win 1st round in playoffs!

The Raider's men's soccer team captured the sights and sounds of fans Wednesday as they hosted the 1st round of playoffs on their home field at Heritage Recreational Facility. The Raiders, down 2-0, came into the second half of play focused on their game. Dominating possession, it seemed just a matter of time before they would put the ball in the back of the net. Jordan Hanson netted the first goal for the Raiders in the 79th minute followed by a goal from Chris Hanson in the 83rd. After 90 minutes of regulation and two sudden death over times, the match stayed even at 2-2 forcing a shootout between both sides. The Raiders came out on top winning the shootout 4-3.

"This is a tremendous victory for us. It was a great opportunity for us to show maturity in our play and learn that no matter what happens we must play till the final whistle blows." -Head Coach, Dan Hicker

Mens Soccer Win at Home; Guarantee Return to Post Season

The Raider mens soccer team capped off their regular season home schedule on Saturday with a 4-1 win against South Puget Sound CC. Seth Baker, Joey Fletcher, Steven Stabbert, and Chris Hanson, each recorded a goal in the contest. Chris Hanson also recorded 3 assists in the match. The win boosts the Raiders to 7-3-4 in league play, solidifying second place with 25 points and guaranteeing a return to the post season. With only 2 games left to go in the regular season, the Raiders will travel south on November 2nd and 3rd to play Clark College and Southwestern Oregon CC, to close out league play. The Raiders will host a first round playoff contest on November 7th, against the eventual 3rd place team from the Northern Division. The playoff match will be played at the Raiders home field at Heritage Recreation Center, beginning at 1:00 pm.
