Raiders Volleyball signs top recruits

CONGRATULATIONS 2008-2009 VOLLEYBALL SIGNEES

The Pierce College Raider Volleyball Program is very pleased to announce the following signed players for their 2008-2009 season. Coaches Tisserand and Pancake believe that they will be terrific additions to the squads eight returners in terms of their talent, athletic ability, and motivated and determined attitude. The Raider Squad welcomes these incoming freshmen!!

Kylie Jeffers: A 5′9″ senior setter from Puyallup High School, Kylie led her team to a second place finish in the SPSL South Division with an overall league record of 11-3. From there, her team competed at the SPSL District Tournament, and earned an entry in the State Tournament, where they finished tied for twelfth. For her efforts, Jeffers was named First Team SPSL South. Additionally, she served as the Team Captain for the 2007-2008 season.
Jeffers played with the Puyallup Juniors Club for two years, and for Puget Sound Volleyball Club for three years.
Kylie intends to pursue a Nursing Degree while at Pierce.
Coaches Remarks: Kylie is an extremely athletic setter who moves the ball very well and is a dynamic player. In addition, she is a very competent blocker and solid offensive weapon. We are thrilled to have her on board, as we believe that she will enable us to run any number of offensive options, while providing very steady defense, and a formidable block.

Erika Gunderson: A 5′9″ senior middle blocker and outside hitter from Bethel High School, team captain Gunderson led her team to a tremendous comeback in the middle of league play that enabled them to advance to post-season play at the SPSL District Tournament. Erika was named Second Team SPSL South for her accomplishments throughout the 2007 season.
She played with G-Town Volleyball Club for 2 years, and for Puget Sound for one year. She was also a five sport athlete in high school, earning her Athlete of the Year honors as a freshman. Additionally, Gunderson played Tennis for Bethel her sophomore year and advanced to League Championships as 3rd Doubles.
Erika intends to pursue an AA while at Pierce.
Coaches Remarks: Erika is a very versatile player, who will give us a great option in the middle, on the outside, or in the back row. She is very quick and consistent and will provide us the ability to effectively run double and triple quicks in a variety of positions. She is a very strong defensive asset, with very stable serve receive and a good feel for the ball.

Raider Freshman Cami Medlock Breaks NWAACC Championship Tournament Record

Pierce College freshman Cami Medlock, 5′5″ outside hitter and libero for the Raiders, broke an all-time NWAACC Championship Tournament record at the 2007 Tournament Finals. Cami posted 18 digs in a single game, establishing both the single game dig record for the 2007 Championships, as well as shattering the old all-time NWAACC Championships single digs per game record. Congratulations to Cami! We are VERY proud of you!!!

Raider Volleyball Players Dig Several Awards at NWAACC Banquet

Award recipients were announced at the NWAACC Conference Championships on Thursday, November 15th. Raider women received several accolades at the NWAACC Banquet. Kristi Alcorn, sophomore setter for the Raiders earned First Team Western Division honors. Freshman outside hitter and libero, Cami Medlock was awarded Second Team Western Division honors, and freshman outside Chelsea Gandy received Honorable Mention Western Division. Additionally, both Raider sophomores, setters Jessica Aldrich and Kristi Alcorn, were named to the Western Division Sophomore All-Star Team.

Raider Volleyball Advances to NWAACC Championships for Third Consecutive Year

The Raider Volleyball Team clenched the third place standing in the Western Division on October 29th, and advances to post-season play at the NWAACC Championship Tournament to be held November 15th-18th, 2007. This is the third consecutive year that the Raiders have earned a Championship berth, and are looking forward to making a run at the title! The Raiders closed out regular season play with a record of 17-11, and a league record of 9-5. Congratulations to the Raiders and Good Luck!!

Freshman Raider Chelsea Gandy Receives NWAACC Conference and Western Division Player of the Week Honors

Chelsea Gandy, 5′7″ outside hitter, received both Western Division and NWAACC Conference Player of the Week honors for the week of October 23, 2007. Chelsea earned this honor based on her performance in seven games in which she posted 39 digs, a 5.6 dig per game average, 2 aces, 99 percent serving efficiency, and 99 percent serve receive efficiency. Congratulations to Chelsea on a job very well done!!

Freshman Laura Struck and Chelsea Gandy Earn All-Tournament Team Honors at October NWAACC Crossover Tournament

Freshman middle blocker Laura Struck and freshman outside hitter Chelsea Gandy were named to the October NWAACC Crossover All-Tournament Team. The tournament, which was held at Pierce College, hosted teams from all four divisions in the NWAACC. Struck and Gandy were among very few freshmen named to the team and received these honors for their outstanding and consistent play throughout the two day tournament. They helped their Raider squad finish second in the tournament, and the whole team displayed tremendous skill and positive attitude throughout the entirety of the tournament. Congratulations Raider Women!!

Volleyball hosts Open Gym Sessions for recruits

March 7. 2008 - The Pierce College Womens Volleyball team will be hosting Open Gym sessions for prospective recruits at the new Health Education Center, located at the Pierce College Fort Steilacoom campus (9401 Farwest Dr. SW, Lakewood). If you are a high school senior or recent graduate and are interested in trying out for the Raiders intercollegiate volleyball team for the Fall 2008 season, this is the best opportunity to show your stuff to the Raiders coaching staff. The dates for the Open Gym sessions are as follows:
