Batch Capturing in Final Cut Pro 3

Quick Guide

  1. Connect your digital video camera to your computer via firewire
  2. Turn the camera on to VCR
  3. Choose your logging bin in the Browser of FCP
  4. Choose File > Log and Capture.
  5. In the Logging tab, enter the name, description, scene, shot/take, and any notes you want.
  6. Using the play controls, find the first frame of your footage you want to capture and press I on your keyboard to set the in-point.
  7. Now, play through the footage to the last frame you want captured and press O to set your out-point.
  8. Press F2 or the Log Clip button to log this clip.
  9. Repeat these steps to log additional clips
  10. Click the Batch button in the Capture box
  11. Check all the settings then click OK
  12. Click the reel you want to capture first and insert that reel into your deck and click Continue.
  13. FCP automatically captures the footage.
  14. After all the clips on a particular reel(tape) have been captured, you will either need to insert the next tape and continue capturing or click Finished.
  15. The captured clips will now appear in your Browser with the names you gave them. The red slashes indicating offline clips are gone, and you are ready to begin editing them.
