Basic Camera Operation
The three easiest ways to break a camera and pay big bucks!
- Drop it
- Get it wet
- Put the tape in incorrectly
A few other things that can mess things up:
- Touching the LCD screen
- Pointing the camera at a bright light for an extended period of time
- Leaving the camera on pause too long (dirties the record head and can
actually burn through your dv tape)
- Letting sunshine into the viewfinder for an extended period of time.
(the lens concentrates the light and burns the sensor)
- Getting your tape near an electromagnetic field.
- Touchin the sensors of the battery with keys or other metal.
Solution: Treat the camera like a baby (that doesn't scream).
Before Recording
- Attach a power source
- Load a cassette (never force it)
- Attach the lens hood
- Remove the lens cap
- Choose and adjust the display: viewfinder or LCD screen (note-the LCD uses
up batteries faster)
Recording
- Slide the Power switch to "Camera"
- For the GL-2 only, on the back of the camera, slide the Tape/Card
switch to Tape
- For the GL-2, on the left side of the camera, set the program selector
to "P".
For the ZR-40, open up the LCD screen and slide the program selector
to "P".
- Press the Start/Stop button to begin recording
- Count 5 seconds before beginning acting for the scene.
- After the scene is over, count another 5 seconds.
- Press the Start/Stop button again to pause recording.
Playback
- Slide the Power switch to "Play(VCR)"
- On the GL-2, open up the hatch on the top of the handle, and push
rewind, play, etc.
- On the ZR-40, use the rewind, play, etc. buttons on the left side
of the camera.
Transfer to the Computer
- On the GL-2, open up the panel in the back of the camera and connect
the firewire cable into the DV outlet. Then connect the other end of the firewire
cable to your computer.
- On the ZR-40, open up the blue/gray panel in the front of the camera
(directly under the microphone) and connect the firewire cable into the DV
outlet. Then connect the other end of the firewire cable to your computer.
