Econ 110 Survey of Economics. This course covers both macroeconomics and microeconomics but in a less mathematical way than the 212-213 sequence. This course is generally transferable although business/social science transfers are advised to take the 212/213 sequence instead. Topics include the operation of the economy as a whole (unemployment, taxes, budget deficits, interest rates, inflation) and the behavior of individual markets (supply and demand, market structures, prices, and the role of government.
Econ 212 Microeconomics. This class looks at individual markets, including topics on supply and demand, elasticity, market structures and the determination of price and output, problems with markets and the role of government, the distribution of income, and international trade. Math 98 with a grade of 2.0 or better or placement in Math 121 or higher is required. Econ 212 satisfies the Quantitative requirement. Business transfers are encouraged to take 212 before 213.
Econ 213 Macroeconomics. This class looks at the economy as a whole, exploring topics such as unemployment, inflation, growth, international trade, fiscal policy, monetary policy, budget deficits, and interest rates. You can Econ 213 before Econ 212 if you would like (or take both at the same time). Social science transfers often find Econ 213 more interesting and are welcome to take this class first. (The Math requirements are the same for 213 as for 212 if you take 213 first.)
