Real Estate Appraisal Certificate
The Real Estate Appraisal Certificate curriculum offers a broad background in practical skills and critical knowledge needed to become a real estate appraisal professional. Appraisal courses meet the Washington State Department of Licensing pre-licensing education requirements to register as a State-Registered Real Estate Appraiser Trainee. During the trainee period, students can then complete additional pre-licensing educational requirements to work towards licensing and examination requirements as a State Licensed Real Estate Appraiser. Some courses in this certificate can be applied towards meeting the college-level subject matter requirements for higher level residential appraisal licensing. This certificate includes course work in real estate fundamentals, appraisal practices and procedures, residential appraisal sale and income approach, real estate law, small business planning, math, and core computer applications.
The Real Estate Appraisal Certificate is designed to prepare students to apply for licensing as an:
- Appraiser Trainee
- Licensed Appraiser
Real Estate Appraisal Certificate Outcomes
Students who receive the Certificate in Real Estate Appraisal will be prepared to:
- Identify the economic principles that impact appraisals and the forces that influence the value of real property.
- Collect data and prepare a residential market analysis.
- Apply the comparison approach to valuation of residential properties.
- Apply the cost approach to valuation of residential properties.
- Complete appraisal forms and reports that conform with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) standards and Washington state laws.
- Meet Department of Licensing pre-licensing educational requirements to apply for licensing in Washington state as a State-Registered Real Estate Appraiser Trainee.
- Meet Department of Licensing pre-licensing educational requirements to apply for the State Licensed Real Estate Appraiser examination.
- Analyze workplace scenarios identifying/debating legal, ethical and socially responsible/irresponsible behavior in the appraisal field.
