Meet Kenneth Owen
For Pierce College music professor Ken Owen, conducting a choir is a whole-body experience. Arms are moving, feet are stepping, and all energy is concentrated into making the best music possible. The same is true for his singers.
"It all comes down to the music-making experience," he said. "Rehearsals are high energy. We keep it moving and we sing a lot."
This "we sing a lot" approach is the heart of Owen's teaching style. Students learn and gain confidence by practicing and performing, and by contributing to the local arts community.
"We make great music here," he explained. "Sometimes it's hard work, but when a student makes great music and has a great concert experience, they keep coming back."
