What Is This?
On this page you will find information about the Cascade Core Renovation project. This information will be updated as we progress so please check back often.
This project originally started as a Library renovation plan which expanded into Student Services, then into a renovation of the core of the Cascade Building on the Fort Steilacoom campus. Depending on future funding approval it will consist of 2 to 4 phases of renovation. In preparation for the renovation, relocation of people began in mid-late June 2007 and will be completed by September. Construction will begin in September 2007.

Work begins!!
(posted 9/17/07)
Pease Construction is preparing to begin work on the Cascade Renovation Project. Barricades and fencing are scheduled to be installed on Monday, September 17, with demolition work beginning immediately following. Major demolition activity will be occurring at night. Construction work on the new main entry will probably be starting next week, as well.
Please be aware that construction activity on campus will be rather intense as Cascade begins and the Health Education Center is wrapping up. We will be monitoring activity throughout in order to ensure safe access is maintained for students, staff, faculty and visitors.
It's very exciting to see years of planning result in the actual work of renovating the Cascade Building. We'll keep you informed as we proceed. I can't promise that there will be no disruption as we undertake this extensive project in an occupied building but we'll do everything we can to minimize it.

We have just completed the bidding process for construction of the Cascade Core Renovation Project. On behalf of Denise Yochum, I'd like to pass on to you that the process was very successful and contract has been awarded to the firm of Pease Construction. We have previous experience with Pease and know that they will do an excellent job for us. A start date for construction has not yet been set but the contractor will be authorized to begin mobilization on site by about the middle of September. More detailed information will follow.
It is very exciting to see this project moving forward! Work will include construction of a new main entry to the Cascade Building, renovation of the Student Services area on Level 3, expansion of the Library on Level 4 as well as into the current Theater location on Level 3 and conversion of Lecture Hall C320 to a new Theater.

Break room remodeling
(posted 8/30/07)
Remodeling of break room Cascade 240 is complete and open for use. A new kitchenette and a new exhaust hood were installed for the range top so that a wider variety (except oil & grease) cooking can be done. The space has been cleaned up to accommodate additional seating. It has been repainted and is now open for use.
This location will serve as the interim replacement of break room Cascade 412 that is be part of the first phase of the Cascade Core construction.
Student Services operations move
(posted 8/9/07)
Beginning Friday, August 10, our Student Services operations will be moving from their current locations on the third level of the Cascade Building to the fourth level Performance Lounge and to the Sunrise Building in preparation for the upcoming Cascade Renovation Project. Moving crews will continue working through the weekend.
On Monday, Student Services staff will begin setting up in their new locations. I.T. staff will be assisting in reconnecting workstations and phones and Facilities staff will be supporting where needed. We hope to have everyone fully functional no later than Tuesday, August 14.
Attached is a campus map showing the locations of Student Services functions in the Performance Lounge and the Sunrise Building. Additional information will be forthcoming.
If you need to contact Student Services personnel or offices, be prepared for some level of disruption over the next few days. We are continuing to work on signage and distribution of information to help not only students needing services but to familiarize staff and faculty with the new layout as we approach the Fall Quarter.
Student Services staff have been very busy preparing for this move and deserve a great deal of credit for making this happen. Student Services and the Library are the most directly impacted groups in this first renovation phase. The upside, of course, is that they will also be the first groups to move into newly renovated portions of the Cascade Building.
Thanks for your continued patience during this transition. We are all working to make this as seamless as possible.

Zone 2a indicates the existing entry corridor which will remain open until the new entrance is built and operational.
