PROJECT MANAGMENT CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
The course curriculum is based on the Project Management Institute (PMI) Project Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) ensuring compliance with international standards. To earn a certificate, students must complete two 12-week courses. Students in the Project Management Program must have strong writing, communication, and critical thinking skills. You must have access to a computer, have an email account and be comfortable using the internet. You must be proficient with current versions of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Students must purchase two required textbooks;"A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge" (PMBOK Guide) 4th edition and "Introduction to Project Management," Kathy Schwalbe, 3rd edition or revised 4th edition. Additional course materials will be required for the second course in the series.
INTRODUCTION TO PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Whether you look at project management as an opportunity for career advancement or as a way to more effectively complete projects, this course provides the foundation by covering the framework, terminology, and concepts for project management. You will learn how a project gets initiated and best practice techniques that make sense in the real world of business and industry. The course will provide the knowledge and techniques to build a project plan, including defining your project scope, schedule, cost, quality and risks; develop a work break-down structure, sequence work activities, estimates, and develop a schedule. Exercises will be used throughout the program so you can apply your new skills in project initiation and planning.

PROJECT SCHEDULING EXECUTION, MONITORING,
CONTROLLING, & CLOSING
Prerequisite: Intro to Project Management & Planning. Learn to use the basic elements of Microsoft Project 2007 using the project plan developed in the previous quarter. You will: enter tasks dependencies and resources; work with constraints, and learn to optimize and update the schedule. Part two of the course addresses the fundamentals of project execution, monitoring and controlling, and closing the project. Learn how to be proactive and use performance reporting to implement quality assurance and control. Get practical tips for securing contract resources, learn how to motivate team members, use team dynamics to achieve success, and identify and solve communication problems to complete your project. You'll learn and practice how to measure and report project progress, monitor and control risks, adjust a project plan, exercise change control, and re-baseline a case study project. Finally, you'll learn concepts of scope verification to help you secure customer acceptance of project results and successfully close the project.

PRINCIPLES OF COACHING
(2 credits or 10 Clock Hours) Want to earn WIAA endorsed American Sport Education Program (ASEP) coaching certification? Improve your coaching skills while gaining a competitive edge in the job market. You will get an overview of the latest theories of and practical applications in sport psychology, team building, risk management, training and injury prevention, coaching philosophy, and skills training. A full day of in-class instruction with plenty of interaction jump starts the course. Students then complete the readings and exercises on their own, then take the ASEP Certification Exam by April 1st and pass with 80% to earn credit or clock hours. All ASEP course materials (available at 1st class) and exam fees are included in fee. Instructor Lisa Murray, MS, is a certified ASEP instructor and instructor at Pierce College. As a nationally licensed soccer coach, Lisa has coached all levels. Lisa has an interactive and fun orientation planned for you. Bring a brown bag lunch for the 30 minute lunch
break. Choose to earn 2 credits or 10 OSPI clock hours. Principles of Coaching is a hybrid course. Students must attend the one-day orientation on March 5 and complete the exam preparation as independent study. Students must take the ASEP certification exam no later than April 1, 2011.

Pierce College and the Washington State
Department of Health offer Stay Active
and Independent for Life (SAIL) training
to health, fitness, nursing, and senior care
professionals. The "train the trainer" course targets fall prevention. In SAIL,
you will earn to identify motor, sensory,
and cognitive systems as components of
balance, and understand the role balance
plays in the health and physical function
of older adults. You will be trained to lead
SAIL exercise sessions that help older
adults improve trength, balance, and the
ability to perform daily tasks. The online
SAIL training uses PowerPoint presentations,
videos, practical demonstrations,
weekly online discussions, and evaluations.
During the 10 week course students
should plan to log in a minimum of 5 times per week to complete the assignments.
CEUs are included in the $185
