WHAT IS CATIA?
CATIA Version 5 is Dassault Systemes' computer aided drafting and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) software solution that allows you to define and make the tools needed to manufacture your products. CATIA is predominately used by design, tooling, and manufacturing engineers, commercial and consumer designers and users of other CAD/CAM software programs. CATIA enables users to tailor product development according to their industry-specific requirements. With CATIA, users simulate the entire range of industrial design processes from marketing and initial concept to product design, analysis, assembly and maintenance. This software is the standard in the aircraft industry and used widely in the automotive industry across the US.

WHO SHOULD TAKE THESE COURSES? This series of courses is suited for current users of CATIA Version 4 who will be upgrading, and other CAD/CAM users who are new to the CATIA software program. CATIA Version 5 provides innovative technologies and a new set of products particularly well-suited for small and medium as well as large-size companies. The majority of Aircraft and automobile manufacturers are expected to switch to CATIA V5 in the near future but the majority of growth is expected to be in the consumer goods design area. Who can benefit from this instruction? Those who are familiar with 3D construction from 2D instructions (Carpenters, Mechanics, Electricians etc.) may also be interested in switching to CATIA.

WHY TRAIN IN VERSION 5?
Dassault Systems introduced a new version of CATIA called CATIA V5 a few years ago. It has announced that it will no longer support the older V4 software. Current users will want to switch to the new version of CATIA for the following reasons:

  • It is compatible with legacy V4 data.
  • The V5 software is supported and will be continuously improved.
  • It is better design software than V4.
  • It requires fewer designers to do the same job.
  • It runs on a more economical hardware platform.
  • The problem facing existing users is that CATIA V5 bears little resemblance to CATIA V4. Consequently, it must be taught from scratch.

WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS FOR TRAINING?

TAKE IT ONLINE: The CATIA V5 series classes are currently offered online using a web-based simulation of the CATIA software so you do not have to have the CATIA software or live in the Seattle/Tacoma area to participate in the courses.

CUSTOMIZED ONLINE/CLASSROOM BOOTCAMP TRAINING: We can bring our portable laptop lab to your site anywhere in the Puget Sound, Washington area and train up to 10 of your staff on any of the modules. Training includes instructor led sessions and access to the online modules for practice and reinforcement.

WHAT ARE THE HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS?
Courses can be accessed with a computer (IBM/MAC/Linux OS) with high speed Internet connection (recommended), an Internet browser with Macromedia Flash plug-in installed, an active email account and pop-up blockers disabled.

HOW DOES ONLINE TRAINING WORK?
These classes are web-based instruction using a simulation of the CATIA software program. Access your classes from the convenience of your home or office computer using a web browser. You do not need the actual CATIA V5 software loaded on your computer to participate in these web-based training modules. You can train from any computer with Internet access (high speed connection recommended). The training includes video demonstrations, interactive exercises where you apply the concepts shown in the video, and checks where you demonstrate your mastery of the subject matter. Once you have successfully completed all the checks for a course, you can request a certificate that documents your training and 2.0 CEU's.

Does your Seattle/Tacoma area business use CATIA V5? We offer customized CATIA V5 training for groups of up to 10 employees at your site using our portable laptop lab.

Your employees can learn the fundamentals of CATIA V5 in five weeks in this hybrid training method combining instructor-led sessions with web-based training. Instructor-led classroom sessions take place at your location or ours using our portable CATIA V5 laptop lab. After each classroom session, your employees reinforce their classroom learning with the corresponding online CATIA V5 simulation training unit (no CATIA license required) via the Internet. Boot Camp can include one module or the five beginning level courses (Introduction, Assembly Design Fundamentals, Sketcher & Auto-Constraints, Part Design Fundamentals and Part & Product Integration, see course descriptions below). Certificates and CEU's help your employees document their successful completion of the training. Each bootcamp session is limited to 10 participants. Visit http://v5train.com/coll/pierce.htm to try out a free demo of the online module.
