Taking charge of your own learning can be an exciting
and rewarding experience. Pierce College Continuing Education classes provide
a chance for life-long learners to do what they have always dreamed about - learn
a language, improve your computer skills, start a business, pursue a passion,
travel the world, take a class online, or try a new sport or leisure activity.
You can document your non-credit learning experiences with CEUs or Clock Hours
whenever you register for a class with Continuing Education.
How are Continuing Education Units (CEU's) and
Clock Hours different than college credit? They were originally designed
for professionals who have already attained a certain level of education and
need to take Continuing Education and training to renew their license or certification.
Today, CEUs and Clock Hours provide a nationally recognized measurement of participation
in an organized continuing education experience, training session or workshop
under responsible sponsorship, capable direction, and qualified instruction.Return

What are Clock Hours?
Pierce College Continuing Education is approved by the Washington State Superintendent
of Public Instruction to provide clock hour certification for K-12 public
school instructors. Certification is available for all programs & classes
offered in our bulletin, including online courses. Course must meet a minimum
of three contact hours. One “clock hour” is equal to one contact
hour of instruction. A $20 fee
per course is added to cover printing, mailing and recordkeeping costs.
Upon completion and verification of attendance, students receive an official
clock hour form by mail that documents the class and number of clock hours
earned. Please ask for Clock Hours when you register for a class. Return

What are CEUs?
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available for all program & classes
offered in our bulletin for a fee of $20 per course. CEUs provide a permanent
record of the educational accomplishments of those who have completed a significant
number of hours in non-credit courses, specialized training, professional workshops,
seminars or conferences. One CEU is equal to 10 contact hours of instruction.
Upon completion and verification of attendance, students receive an official
Pierce College CEU certificate documenting the class and number of CEUs earned.
Please ask for CEU's when you register for a class. Return

CEU's for Outside Organizations: We also work with outside organizations to sponsor CEUs for non-credit
workshops and training sessions or conferences. Prior approval of course content
and registration through Pierce College is required. If your business or organization
is interested in offering CEUs for employee or member training, please give
us a call before you set up your event so we can help you with registration
and CEU's. Return to top.
