There are lot of places that offer prelicensing and licensing renewal classes, but at Pierce College you can earn college credits from instructors who do this work for a living while you meet the pre-licensing course requirements. We offer all our real estate and real estate appraisal classes through non-traditional distance learning. You can take your class online via the Internet or via correspondence and email or snail mail your assignments to your instructor.

Spanish for Manufacturing is designed for managers, supervisors, team leaders, or anybody who works with Spanish-speaking employees and co-workers in a manufacturing setting. What courses are available? There are four courses in the series. Courses should be taken sequentially.Once you have completed a course successfully, you may begin the next course in the series. Once you have been notified of your username and password, you have 30 days to access and complete each section. Each course costs $99 or you may register for all four at the same time for the discounted price of $369.

Wage and Hour Law - Gain knowledge of and skills in wage and hour law as it pertains to payroll preparation. Learn what areas of payroll are covered by federal wage and hour laws and which are not, when state law applies and when federal wage and hour laws must be followed. Learn how to properly calculate overtime and gross pay according to federal and or state requirements. Learn what constitutes an employee and the difference between exempt and salaried employees and how it reflects pay calculations. Determine what can be deducted from an employee’s paycheck and what postings must be displayed to prevent penalty assessments.

Taxation and Compensation - Gain the knowledge and skills related to federal and state payroll taxation. Learn what taxes are withheld from the employee and which the employer pays directly as well as deposit and reporting methods available. Learn how to research and determine multi-state taxation requirements. Learn how to handle Form W-4 and what constitutes taxable and nontaxable wages. Learn when wages are considered supplemental and how pay periods effect taxation requirements.

Fringe Benefits, Compensation and Taxation - Gain knowledge of and skills in understanding the basics of fringe benefits, including law requirements, taxation and reporting. Learn what methods are available for calculating the personal use of a company vehicle and hen relocation is taxable. Understand how third party sick pay is reported and what taxes apply to expatriates and nonresident aliens.

Payroll Management and Year-end Reporting -
Gain knowledge of and skills required for successful management of a large or small payroll department. Learn how to write department procedure manuals, handle IRS notices and research payroll regulations using the Internet. Learn the regulations concerning garnishments and records retention. Learn how to properly prepare for and complete year-end including required year end memos and notices, Form W-2 submission and corrections, and Form 940 reporting.

How long will it take me to complete each course? Each course takes approximately 8-10 hours to complete. You will receive a completion certification upon successful completion of each course.

What hardware and software will I need to take this course? Participants must have a home computer with Internet Explorer, Adobe Acrobat Reader, and a realiable Internet connection. You should be comfortable navigating the Internet, using website features such as fill-in-the-blank forms, navigation links, using submit buttons, etc. You should be able to send and receive emails with attachments.

When can I start? Classes are open entry so you may register and start the course at anytime. Courses should be taken sequentially. You have 25 days to complete each course. Each course will take you approximately 8-10 hours to complete. Students who do not complete the course within this time period will need to register and pay the course fee again to continue.

Obtaining login and password information: Once you have lwerley@pierce.ctc.edu to obtain login and password information. Your email will notify the instructor you are ready to take the course. The account setup process normally takes two business days to set up. Please include the following in your email:

Clock Hour Certification for K-12 Teachers: Pierce College Continuing Education is approved by the Superintendent of Public Instruction to provide clock hour certification for K-12 public school instructors. This certification is available for all programs offered in this section. Effective Fall Quarter 2002, a $15 fee is added to the course fee to offset printing, mailing and recordkeeping costs. Call (253)840-8452 for more information. Participants purchasing Clock Hours and CEUs are encouraged to check with their employing agency if these certifying units will be accepted. Continuing Education does not maintain a listing for each employing agency. Requests for clock hours must be made at time of registration or within the same quarter year in which the class was completed.

Continuing Education Units (CEU): CEU's are available for Continuing Education classes for a processing fee of $20 per class. One CEU is available for every 10 hours of class attended. CEU's provide a permanent record of the educational accomplishments of an individual who has completed one or more significant, non-credit educational experience. How long will it take me to complete each class? Most students complete each course in 20-30 hours. Not sure what direction to take? For those wishing an overview of the travel industry, we recommend the Taking Off In Travel Course. It is the perfect course to introduce you to a variety of travel products and careers in travel and tourism. This course provides an overview of the basics of the travel industry and career opportunities available. Enjoy a fun, realistic presentation of: air travel, car rentals, hotel accommodations, rail travel, tours, and cruises. Group travel, incentive travel, meetings and conventions, in-bound tourism, international travel and niche travel are also discussed. There will be opportunities for learning activities as well as exercises and thought-provoking case studies to aid in applying the principles presented.

Why take a class online? Online classes are ideal for those who can not attend regularly scheduled courses due to work or family commitments. You can access your class materials at any time of the day or night. Classes are individually priced, so you can pay as you go.
