Travel with Pierce College is a unique experience. These trips have been carefully planned by Travel Program coordinator Aysin Clay, an avid world traveller. Many of our trips are led by Pierce College faculty and staff who are particularly knowlegable about the destination or are subject matter experts making your experience fun, relaxing and educational. Spa Trip

Enjoy a regime combining good nutrition, daily exercise and tennis or golf instruction, along with health and beauty treatments. Men can opt for the golfing spa package. November 5 – 12, 2008

The fabulous French and Italian Riviera awaits your arrival, complete with elegant coastal resorts, superb dining, fabulous shopping and fascinating museums.  Unpack your bags just once and stay at a single hotel for your entire adventure. Enjoy the scent of fragrant flowers fills the air as you enjoy a morning stroll through a local flower market. Stop and sample the local olives and cheeses. Sit in a cafe in St. Tropez, a popular resort frequented by artists and movie stars and people watch.

November 6 - Your tour commences in the stunning Mediterranean city of Nice, long the playground of the rich and famous.  With an average of nearly 300 sunny days per year, Nice is a seaside paradise.  This evening join your fellow travelers for a welcome dinner featuring inspired French cuisine artfully presented.

November 7 – Ventimiglia, Italy – San Remo – Cross the border into Italy and arrive in the charming town of Ventimiglia with its alluring, twisted medieval alleys.  Leisure time is available to explore the lively Market Place, offering all types of local crafts and fresh produce.  You then proceed to San Remo, the luxurious capital of the Italian Riviera.  A wonderful dinner awaits you this evening at a popular local restaurant.

November 8 – Grasse – Follow the magnificent scenery along the lovely Loup River to St. Paul de Vence, situated on top of a hill overlooking the beautiful countryside.  This medieval, walled town is filled with historic buildings, hidden alleyways, fabulous restaurants and many specialty shops.  As you explore, soak in its distinctive light, said to have inspired Matisse, Braque, Chagall and many other artists.

November 9 – Begin your day with a tour of Nice.  A visit to the local flower market, where much more than brightly colored blooms are sold, is followed by a trip to the lively seafront Promenade des Anglais and Place Massena, the town’s center of activity.  Next, visit the Chagall Museum to see his celebrated collection of paintings.  Travel the spectacular coastline, passing the charming town of Villefranche-sur-Mer east of Nice.  In St. Jean-Cap-Ferrat, called the crown jewel of the French Riviera, you visit the impressive Rothschild Villa and Gardens.  This seaside palazzo overlooks the Mediterranean and boastings seven themed garens, paintings, and other antiquities.

November 10 – St. Tropez – Cannes – Once an old fishing village, this scenic area is now a fashionable resort frequented by movie stars, artists and writers.  Relax and enjoy the sights on a delightful cruise around the yacht-filled bay before heading off to the popular resort of Cannes where you will explore the Old Town, Le Suquet, and walk along the elegant Boulevard de la Croisette.

November 11 – Monaco – A panoramic tour of Monaco features the famous Casino of Monte Carlo, the Place des Armes, Prince’s Palace, Avenue des beaux Artes, and the Cathedral of Monaco, where Prince Rainier and Princess Grace are buried.  A highlight of your visit to Monaco is the fascinating Oceanographic Museum which was founded in 1910 by Prince Albert 1 who personally collected many of the marine artifacts on display.  This evening join your fellow travelers for a farewell dinner celebrating the end of an unforgettable trip.

November 12 – Depart for home.

Oregon Shakespeare Festival 2008


Drama buffs! An extraordinary summer field experience has been planned for you by the Pierce College Office of Continuing Education. Shakespeare and Drama (English 234/202), Shakespeare Festival (English 250/Theatre 255) combine eight class sessions with a four-day stay in Ashland, Oregon. You will enjoy six stunning plays, all part of this year’s Oregon Shakespeare Festival, one of the best Shakespearean festivals in the world.

Your classroom will be the stage at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.  Having read and discussed the plays prior to the Festival, you will arrive in Ashland well prepared to appreciate and enjoy them.  You will spend four days close to the excitement and bright lights, enjoying six plays, a backstage tour and a chat with a director or actor – all with the beauty of the Rogue River and Southern Oregon as a backdrop.  Class sessions after the Festival will focus on Shakespeare’s works.

Course Fee:  $TBA.  Includes course tuition for 10 credits, tickets to plays and lodging for four nights in Ashland (double occupancy).  Meals and transportation to and from Ashland are not included.  There will be no refund for lodging and ticket fees .

Your Instructor: “The play’s the thing!” says Pierce College’s Steve Jaech, your instructor.  Steve, who has led several successful trips to Ashland, has taught English at Pierce College over 20 years.  A seasoned field-experience instructor, he was one of the three Washington state teachers invited to teach Shakespeare in London at the American Institute of Foreign Studies in 1988.

Register and earn 10 Credits, SPI clock hours or take it just for fun (no-credit):

Earn ten credits or 100 in-service clock hours approved by the Superintendent of Public Instruction.  Or you can opt for no credit and take courses just for the fun of it.
