Chemistry - Home

Explore the vast possibilities of the physical universe and begin working towards a career in the sciences in Pierce College's chemistry program. This two-year program provides a solid foundation of basic chemistry courses for students planning to transfer to a four-year college for further study.

Career opportunities for students who pursue advanced study in the chemistry field include teaching, research, chemical lab work, chemical engineering, quality control, environmental monitoring, and medicine.

Transfer Possibilities
Students typically working toward their transfer degree (Direct Transfer Associate's degree) take a variety of courses designed to fulfill the general requirements of most four-year colleges and universities. Chemistry courses may be taken as part of this larger goal and are especially valuable to students planning on majoring in this or a related field at a four-year school. Check with the school you wish to attend for detailed information on transfer requirements, and see your academic advisor.

Course Possiblities

  • General Chemistry with Lab I, II, and III (CHEM& 161-163)
  • Organic Chemistry with Lab I, II, and III (CHEM& 261-263)
  • Calculus I, II, and III (MATH& 151-153)
  • Linear Algebra (MATH 205)
  • Multivariate Calculus (MATH 224)
  • Differential Equations (MATH 238)
  • Engineering Physics (PHYS& 221-223)

For electives, students are advised to take a foreign language and Computer Science I (CS& 131).
