Pierce College's Pacific Northwest Dental Hygiene Institute (PNWDHI) courses are designed to train or review and improve skills for dental hygienists (or dentists) in the administration of local anesthesia and nitrous oxide, as well as restorative dental procedures included in the Dental Hygiene and Dental Practice Acts for Washington State.
Lab and clinical patient experiences are included in the grounded clinical portion of the courses.
All clinical training is supervised by licensed dental hygienists and dentists experienced in teaching expanded functions.
Pierce College's Dental Hygiene program is accredited by the American Dental Association's Commission on Dental Accreditation.
The following states and Canadian Providences have approved the respective PNWDHI courses allowed by their practice acts: Washington, Oregon, and Arizona; British Columbia, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland.
Successful completion of the Local Anesthesia and/or Restorative courses meets eligibility requirements for the Western Regional Examining Board (WREB) examinations.
