Pierce College Dental Hygiene students

BASDH prerequisite courses must be completed by the end of winter quarter, or by the end of March in the year of application.

Please inform your advisor of this requirement in order to create an Educational Plan that will allow you to apply in 2018.

Pierce College Students Applying for Dental Hygiene Prerequisite Courses

  1. If you are new to Pierce College, please apply to the college first. Get started on admissions.

  2. Review the entire Dental Hygiene program website, including the degree and program information.
  3. Print or download a copy of the BASDH Advising Packet. The packet will assist you in managing your educational plan for eligibility to apply to the dental hygiene program.

Students Taking Dental Hygiene Prerequisite Courses at Another College or University

What Courses Do I Take at My College or University?

  1. If you do not see your course (including a Pierce College course) or college/university listed on the Prerequisite Course Substitution Guide, please use the official Prerequisite Course Substitution form to submit a course for Dental Hygiene Application prerequisite course substitutions.
  2. Download, print, or save a copy of our BASDH Advising Packet.
  3. Make an appointment with your college/university advisor.
  4. Work with your advisor in determining which courses at your institution may qualify or substitute as dental hygiene prerequisite courses to Pierce College.
  5. Once you have identified potential course substitutions, submit these courses via our Substitute Prerequisite Course form.

We usually respond within seven business days to substitute dental hygiene prerequisite course requests, but it can take up to four weeks. Please plan accordingly. There is no other way to gain approval for course transfers.

IMPORTANT: Only courses submitted and approved through the official Substitute Prerequisite Course form are accepted for course substitutions. Advising plans, emails, education plans, or other written or verbal documentation created by anyone either inside or outside the Pierce College system (including advising documents by the program director) are not accepted for course substitutions. No exceptions.

We utilize both the University of Washington (UW) Equivalency Guide and the Eastern Washington University's (EWU) Transfer Guide to determine acceptable substitute prerequisite DH courses for our program.

Courses approved by Pierce College for transfer credits may not be approved as prerequisites for application to the dental hygiene program.

Course GPA Requirements

  • Minimum INDIVIDUAL course GPA = 2.5
  • Minimum GPA average of dental hygiene prerequisite courses = 3.3

NOTE: ENGL&101 is not subject to the course GPA requirement. It can also be waived or tested out of.

Course Expiration Age

The science, math, and ENGL&102 or ENGL&235 courses may be no more than five years old. For example, if you are applying in January 2018, the oldest course completion date is Fall 2012.

Course Repeats

  • Dental hygiene prerequisite courses may be repeated only once.
  • The LAST grade earned is used for application acceptance and ranking.
