Counseling - What to Expect (Puyallup)

When you arrive for your appointment, please check in with the front desk staff who will let the counselor know you have arrived.

If this is a first appointment, you will be provided with a Student Information Sheet to fill out prior to your appointment. This typically takes about 10 minutes to complete. This information sheet can also be accessed on the link below and can be printed and filled out in advance and brought in to your appointment. At times, students may only be seeking a brief consultation or referral information. If that is the case, then you only need to fill out the first side of the Student Information Sheet.

Counseling services, which might include consultation and referral or short-term counseling, are private and confidential. At your first appointment, the Counselor will explain confidentiality and limits of confidentiality under state law (Washington State DOH Brochure on laws affecting Licensed Mental Health Counselors). You and the Counselor will discuss your needs, scope of services provided, and additional information which will allow you to you make an informed decision on the counseling process.

Counseling sessions typically last 50 minutes.
