Important reminders for fall and winter quarters

September 26, 2011

Students who completed their financial aid application after Sept. 15 are being awarded grant funds within two weeks of their file being complete. Due to limited funding availability, grant awards are limited to Federal Pell Grants for students who completed their files after the the fall priority funding date of May 2.

First-time borrowers for fall quarter 2011 are reminded that their loan funds may not be disbursed for at least 30 days after the start of the quarter. Financial Aid is working to provide funds prior to Oct. 31 to first-time borrowers who completed their loan applications before Sept. 1.

Information pages to help students understand the impacts of course withdrawal on financial aid eligibility are now posted to the Financial Aid Forms section of the web page.

Students interested in beginning enrollment in winter quarter 2012 are encouraged to file their FAFSA documents now!

Federal Stafford Loan Borrower - Notice to Complete Exit Counseling

July 21, 2010

Federal regulations require that notice be sent to all Stafford Loan borrowers who are no longer enrolled at Pierce College, reminding them to complete exit counseling. If you are a continuing student at Pierce College and enrolled in half-time status or more you may disregard this notice. Exit Counseling Is required before, or immediately after, you withdraw, graduate, or drop below half-time attendance (even if you plan to transfer to another school).

The online counseling session:

  • Explains when your grace period begins and ends Provides information regarding repayment options and interest rates
  • Describes deferment and forbearance conditions
  • Reviews delinquency and default prevention
  • Provides useful tips and information to help manage your loans

Follow these steps to complete Exit Counseling:

1. Gather names, addresses, and phone numbers for two references you will be required to list within the Exit Session. Do not list two people living at the same address as each other.

2. Log onto NSLDS.ed.gov. Select the "Exit Counseling" service tab.

Award Update

July 9, 2010

We have started processing award offers for students who are registered for Summer Quarter 2010 classes. Summer students who submitted a completed FAFSA and all required documents prior to May 31, 2010 will be processed ahead of students completing requirements on June 1 or after.

Students on Financial Aid Hold for SUMMER with files complete after June 1 will be in our second focus group for awarding.

We are working to send general e-mail notification to students once their award is processed. This will not include program details. It will only indicate that the award is processed and that the aid will pay against your balance due at the soonest possible time.

If you are enrolled in less than 12 credits you need to let FA know so it doesn't delay your funding once you are awarded.

MPN and Entrance Counseling Letters

July 9, 2010

We are aware that many students have received confirmation statements through the Student Loans (studentloans.gov) website which have not yet been confirmed on our online student services website. We are aware that some students may receive letters indicating that Direct Loan Entrance Counseling and Promissory Note work is still needed.

Please be assured that if you have received the confirmation statement from Student Loans (studentloans.gov) that your actions have been completed. Due to our needs to adjust our internal processes for this new student loan flow, we are not fully current on our tracking of these items into our financial aid system.

If you have your confirmation statements, you do not need to call or send an e-mail asking about your Promissory Note or Entrance Counseling.

To confirm your status, you may visit the Student Loans (studentloans.gov) website and follow the links for confirming Entrance Counseling, and also for a Completed Master Promissory Note.
