Scholarships are a great way to pay for your education or technical training. New scholarships are announced throughout the year, so it's good to check back to this page frequently for information on the latest opportunities, as well as links to application information and other details. Pierce College Foundation Scholarships

Applications for the 2015-16 annual awards are due on April 9, 2015.

Apply on-line at TheWashBoard.org and complete a profile and be matched with scholarships for which you meet the criteria. Students submit one application to be considered for all Foundation Scholarships.

Requirements:
  • Taking at least 10 credits at the time of application and have a 3.0+ GPA.
  • Enrolled in at least 10 credits at Pierce College winter quarter 2015.
  • 3.0+ GPA as additional criteria.
  • If you are a first quarter student, you may apply without a GPA.
  • A one-page essay and letter recommendation are required.
  • A completed FAFSA application on file with Pierce College Financial Aid 30 days before your application is submitted.

Transfer Scholarships for Exceptional Students

Barry Goldwater Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: Awarded up to $7,500
  • Deadline: January 23, 2015

Morris K. Udall Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: Awarded up to $5,000
  • Deadline: March 4, 2015

We are searching for College sophomores and juniors for leadership, public service, and commitment to issues related to American Indian nations or to the environment.

Washington State Opportunity Scholarship

The Washington State Opportunity Scholarship (WSOS) supports low and middle income students pursuing eligible, high-demand majors in science, technology, engineering, math (STEM) or health care.

Up to $22,500 for 2015-2016 Academic year.

  • GPA 2.75
  • Completed FAFSA
  • Annual awards range from $2,500-$7,500.
  • Renewable up to five years based on credits completed and continued eligibility.
  • Approximately 700 applicants selected.

Applications available: Jan. 5, 2015
Deadline: March 2, 2015

Leadership 1000 Scholarship

The Leadership 1000 Scholarship provides college scholarships to students who will be attending an eligible four-year college or university in Washington state. A Leadership 1000 Scholarship can be customized around a general set of requirements requested by the donor.

Up to $20,000 for 2015-2016 Academic year.

  • Annual awards range from $2,500-$5,000.
  • Some scholarships are renewable for up to four years.
  • Approximately 60 applicants selected.

Applications available: Jan. 12, 2015
Deadline: March 9, 2015

Governors' Scholarship

The Washington State Governors' Scholarship for Foster Youth helps young men and women from foster care continue their education and earn a college degree. The program has been supported by the current and former governors in Washington state.

Up to $20,000 for 2015-2016 Academic year.

  • Annual awards range from $2,000-$4,000.
  • Renewable for up to five years.
  • Approximately 50 applicants selected.

Applications available: Jan. 12, 2015
Deadline: March 9, 2015

Bill Stoner Endowment Scholarships

Four Bill Stoner Endowment Scholarships will be awarded to assist recipients in reaching their educational and career goals.  The $1,250 awards are paid directly to the recipient's college or university to be used toward tuition or books.

  • Scholarship Amount: $1,250
  • Deadline: March 4, 2015
Scholarship Criteria:
  • Adult learner attending Pierce College
    OR homeschooled resident of Puyallup or Sumner
    OR PHS, RHS, ERHS, WHS, SHS or BLHS graduating senior.
  • Attending an accredited two or four year college or university (adult learners must be attending Pierce College).
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher (n/a for adult learners).
  • Demonstrated financial need.
Include the Bill Stoner Endowment Scholarship Application form and the following:
  • Unofficial transcripts (high school or most recent two years of schooling).
  • Two letters of recommendation – one from a scholastic contact, one from a community contact. Both letters should include contact information and must have been written within the last 12 months.

NON-TRADITIONAL STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP

Brenda Godfrey / Jack Elms Scholarship

The Brenda Godfrey / Jack Elms Scholarship for Non-traditional Students from the Red Canoe Credit Union.

  • Scholarship Amount: $1,000
  • Deadline: March 31, 2015
This scholarship is looking for Non-Traditional Students such as:
  • Adult learners.
  • Students who didn't go directly to college after graduating high school or receiving their GED.
  • Students who are starting their higher education later in life.
  • Students who have experienced an interruption in their college education for at least one year and are now returning to college to complete their degree.
In addition to completing the application form, applications must inlcude:
  • A copy of high school diploma or GED certificate.
  • A signed letter of recommendation, addressing citizenship, character, motivation, and academic potential.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR PIERCE STUDENTS AT JBLM

  • Horst and Carol Marschall Scholarship – Application deadline March 2, 2015

When Horst Marschall (long-time Executive Director of the Pierce College Military Program) retired, faculty and staff at Pierce College funded a scholarship in recognition of his leadership, vision and support for staff, faculty and students at JBLM. The scholarship is for a Pierce College student who is enrolled at JBLM and is currently serving in any of the US Armed Forces (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, National Guard or Reserves serving on active duty).

  • Jennifer Jamison Textbook Scholarship – Application deadline March 9, 2015

The Jennifer Jamison Textbook Scholarship provides $200 for textbooks for military-affiliated students at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Application is open to veterans, active duty military personnel and their family members, with preference going to those who have served in Iraq or Afghanistan. Qualified applicants must be enrolled in at least 10 credits at Pierce College and have a minimum 3.3 GPA at the time of application. Funds will be made available to winners for spring quarter 2015.
