The Annual Students of Color Conference is open to students enrolled in spring quarter at the Puyallup or Fort Steilacoom campus. This is a great opportunity for students to learn about higher education opportunities, leadership, ethics, diversity, multiculturalism, and social activism.
The Multicultural Student Services Directors’ Council (MSSDC), a statewide consortium of community and technical college multicultural directors, has been sponsoring this conference for the past 20 years to respond to the challenges of addressing, meeting, and affirming increasingly diverse student needs. The Students of Color Conference is designed to strengthen awareness and knowledge within the context of social identity development, enhance skills that enable students to become more active proponents of their own education and life choices, and expand the opportunities and possibilities for students to become agents of change. Students learn critical thinking skills, develop networks of support, are exposed to diverse approaches to learning, and use cultural knowledge as a foundation for educational practice.
