For many students, testing is a critical step to getting on track with their college education. The Testing Centers at Pierce Fort Steilacoom and Pierce Puyallup can help you determine what course best suits your needs, allow you to take courses online or through multimedia presentations, challenge courses to receive college credit, or offer you a chance to earn a GED. The Testing Centers are also a convenient way to make up a test you may have missed when it was originally given in class.
Recent high school students may use their high school transcripts to determine initial placement into Pierce College math courses according to the following guidelines. Students are still required to take the COMPASS placement test and may use either measure to determine initial placement.
Please see an advisor in either the Welcome Center at Pierce College Fort Steilacoom or Student Success Center at Pierce College Puyallup for more information.
COMPASS walk-in and other testing includes: COMPASS assessment, faculty make-up exams, distance learning, proctor exams and all non-GED exams.
To view COMPASS assessment sample questions, go to: www.act.org/compass/sample/index.html.

After taking the COMPASS, if you believe you are ready for a higher level math course, you may take the Pierce College Math Challenge Assessment (PCMCA). The purpose of the PCMCA is to provide an opportunity for students to challenge their COMPASS math placement to determine their readiness for a higher level math course.
