Michele
LaFontaine

I came to
Pierce as a student in 1990
and immediately
gravitated to the Earth Science Department. I was lucky enough to
get
a
workstudy job in there. After
earning my AAS degree I transferred to Huxley College of Environmental
Studies,
WWU, Bellingham. I graduated in 1995
with a degree in Environmental Education/Mass Communications. I
did my senior internship in North Cascades
National Park. That internship led to a
job with the Park and I spent the next eight years as a Naturalist
Ranger
working at North Cascades National Park, Mt Baker-Snoqualmie National
Forest, Mount
Saint
Helens National Volcanic Monument, and Olympic National Park.
In the
summer of 2002 I worked for
The Nature Conservancy at
their awesome TenSleep Preserve in the Bighorn Mountains of
Wyoming.
After returning from Wyoming I relocated to
the Tacoma area and returned to Pierce as a permanent employee in the
Earth
Science Department – and am very happy to be back!
My
interests include hiking, backpacking, animals, quilting, environmental
and
peace issues, and spending time with my grandkids.
