TRIO Eligibility: A Step-by-Step Guide
TRIO's services are intended for first-generation college students, and/or low-income students, and/or students with a documented disability that have an academic need.
If you can answer “YES” to ALL the questions below, then you are eligible for TRIO!
1. US citizen or permanent resident?
YES
2. Planning to attend Pierce College Ft. Steilacoom campus?
YES
3. Planning to obtain a transferable associate’s degree within three consecutive academic years and immediately transfer to a 4-year college (by the following fall quarter after graduating)?
Pre-nursing students Only: Do you intend to transfer to a dual RN-BSN program AND do you have a minimum 2.0 in each of the following courses: Math 98, English 101, Chemistry 100, and Biology 101.
YES
4. Do you have an Academic Need based on at least one of the following?
a) Undecided major and/or need extra, individualized help in order to finish up at Pierce and transfer to a university.
b) Placed or currently enrolled in any one of the following:
Math 60/98, English 98/99, Reading 75/101 OR you have a GED.
c) Haven’t been to school in five or more years, and this is my first quarter back.
YES
5. Do you fit into at least one of the following descriptions?
a) First Generation--neither parent earned a bachelor’s degree or higher while you were growing up?
b) Income eligible (based on taxable income from last year’s tax return or financial aid application form). If you are receiving the Pell grant from financial aid, this is one indicator that you may qualify.
c) Documented Disability.
